Anyone interested in exploring worlds? Its basically an obscure 3d chat room from the 90s that has a strangely nostalgic early internet feel to it.

The website for the download: worlds.com

It needs java 6 to run, a good download for it is http://users.worldsonline.com/users/jimbly/java/index.htm

If you have an AMD card: "Disable your display adapter by going to Device Manager then Display Adapter. If you disable it, the screen will become small but you will be able to load Worlds. Make sure to enable it once you log onto Worlds so you can play it in fullscreen."

Would be cool to maybe explore it with /vr/. Maybe tomorrow I'll try running it.

Does someone have the story about the guy who lived his life on Worlds.com and completely sheltered himself from real life? I can't find it but I would be grateful if someone had it to share.

Also does anyone have the story, I think it was about worlds.com or something similar, where someone offered to help a newcomer with the game and eventually let him into his "home" and progressively it got creepier and more obscure until there was nothing but torture chambers and gore.

bump. Oh shit almost missed this thread. Im gonna redownload worlds.com and you can friend me as "Videot". I wonder if /v/ or /x/ has made any threads lately? Thanks for the list of known locations. Finding hidden areas is the best part about worlds. Some areas are actually unlisted and completely private. Some places just dont load anymore.

A few years back, maybe five, I explored worlds with buddies I made on x. They showed me this guy's home he had made back in 1998, complete with family paraphernalia and a banner linking to his Geocities website. The guy was a trucker. Sadly died in a crash or something in 1999.
I loved exploring worlds and the fact that there were people still playing it from early days, despite being creepy fuckers, was fascinating. The aerosmith shit is hilarious.
Worlds is a super enigmatic and bizarre thing in general.
I eventually moved on to other stuff, and I thought worlds closed. The laptop I had my log in info and the client stopped working during college. Thanks op for bringing this back. A few weeks ago I visited the world's website but couldn't find anyway to get into the actual game, it seemed like they'd closed shop.

Worlds is real weird. Like a vision of what the internet could have been.

Tama Town is the best world. Also the 911 memorial and the Alien space ship and bone zone. I downloaded the installer of their main page on worlds.com it works for me on win8 lmao yes I still use win8 on my shitty laptop. There are other old 3D chats like Digital Space Traveler that is similar to worlds.

I remember exploring them with a friend in 2012, there were hundreds of worlds on like 5 different websites I think. Sucks that it's that dead though. There was also a site where you could see who was online and where they were, can't remember what the URL was though.

I used to hang out with the spooky crew on Worlds between 2012 and '14, freaking out the newbies that would come to explore.

I knew all the secrets like making your avatar ridiculously huge, clipping through walls, levitatating and making the environment a strobe-flashing, epilepsy-inducing nightmare. Fun times.

There's a Worlds.com world dedicated to Hanson of MMMBop fame. It was empty when I checked, unsurprisingly.

I really dont visit /x/ that often. I feel like I should more tho. Anyways this groundzero has a lot of world links including the sanic one notlostsouls. worlds.com is not really as spooky as people pretend it is or make out to be. Its much more lonely than it is spooky.
