you do ninja platforming like a boss, grabbing onto walls and ceilings and shit, while carving up all sorts of giant robots and ruskie cyborgs with a single slash.

And remember it came out in like 1989. The high end platform game of the time was Super Mario Bros 3. Compared to that it controlled twice as smooth, had 10 times the action on screen, had gigantic sprites, and backgrounds with more than 2 colours.

You can slice dragons made of commie scums.
Seriously though, I always feel like playing this game is like playing some kind 80s-90s sci-fi action anime. The movement and platforming is crazy fast so there are not much wasted time wandering around, the combat is quick, and there are many 'cinematic' moments like fighting enemies on an aircraft, escaping from an exploding battleship and of course riding a fucking mecha dragon to meet the final boss on the top of the world.

You hack a giant metal gorilla apart with a ninja in the Siberian tundra.

Otherwise the game looks and feels pretty good as you play. Those cartwheel jumps were pretty bad ass, save for the one section where you might keep flinging yourself off the damn airships.

The cutscenes were also multi-lingual too. That was pretty neat.

Only thing I didn't like about Strider 1 was "P-PAH-PA-P-P-PAH-P-P-PA-PAH" over that dope sound the cypher sword makes.

i had it on genesis and i was really bad at it

found the controls really clunky and jumping / sword swinging sucked ass compared to revenge of shinobi
i am not OP

but

after a few years i went back to it and i loved it

so maybe you're just not old enough for it yet :^)

>> No.3910861

>>3910742
I wouldn't say "sucked ass", but that IS a valid point there.

It was the level design that did it for me. The only time I had to actually to think about where I needed to go was stages 2 and 5. Progressing through a level felt very fluid.

The Arcade version is better imo, the Genesis one is not a bad port, but the screen is kinda cramped compared to the original.

I had the NES version as a kid, very different from the arcade since it was essentially an action RPG mixed with a fetch quest

Also, is Strider still the only game set in Kazakhstan?

I can understand why people would prefer Strider 2, though to me it feels like they took level design that would make sense in Strider 1 but gave you an excessively increased moveset. It kind of trivializes the game in a fashion similar to Castlevania IV and the diagonal whip. Also I find the loading times atrocious.
