Mega man can only have 3 shots on screen at a time, so you'll notice if you get close to the edge of the screen, you can fire pellets until time immemorial. So what you do is get right up into the enemy and rapid fire that button, because the pellets are disappearing, allowing you to fire even more.

I pretty much agree with everyone saying the original Super Mario Bros. I can beat Ninja Gaiden, Battletoads, all the Mega Man games, etc. but I still can't beat SMB legitimately (only beat it using the 1-2 warp to 4-1, and the 4-2 warp to 8-1).

it's because Ninja Gaiden, Battletoads and Mega Man have infinite continues, so you never get as frustrated

it's not too bad until you get to the last 3 stages, which are not only extremely difficult, but have you fight 3 final bosses in a row, and if you die on any of them you have to re-do the 3 stages again

eventually you play all of them enough that you can easily get to the bosses and defeat them, but the last part of that game can take you longer than the entire rest of the game

What the fuck? It's so god damned easy that it's pathetic. 2J/Lost Levels is also really easy.

There's no shame in that if you were really young/new to games. I couldn't beat Green Hill Zone for a long time when I was a little kid because games were just so new to me. I eventually beat the entire game with all emeralds; that was a great fucking day.

My list:
After wandering around for a while and grinding a bit I looked up a map of the 3rd dungeon in Kid Icarus cause I couldn't find my way to the top right square, despite the fact that I had uncovered every other.

I looked up a strategy to defeat the gatekeeper in Dynamite Headdy.

Sorry, not really retro: I looked up the location of the last missile expansion in Metroid Prime because I simply could not find it.

I have never beaten SMB without warp zones.

>I'd believe. If I can beat every level individually without dying, why no consequtively?

Because you can't beat every level with perfect consistency, and iterated probabilities multiply. SMB3 has 90 levels. If you can clear each one with 99% certainty, your chances of clearing every one consecutively is only 0.99^90 = 40%.

And 99% consistency for each individual level is very good skill too. If it drops to 95% then you only have 1% chance of clearing all 90 levels consecutively.

To save on loading times, I use savestates where I would normally save (and maybe all the fun boss fights (Zelda3 being a good example)), and if there's a bunch of grinding to deal with, fast forward a majority of the time, or just remember the rewards and such, use a cheat engine to give myself a probable amount of the reward (giving myself a few less of them as a price for cheating to cut on time), and just ballpark the EXP and level I was reaching for (relevant to the amount of work i would otherwise waste; penalize my game data with the same amount of time it would normally take. Less muss, less fuss, avoid the grind, still enjoy the game as I otherwise normally would have.

Anyone else use Cheat Engine or otherwise to just minimize the agonizing grind in certain games; or to even check out some of the proposed rumors games give you as well? Like Ayla's Golden Fist after a certain level (Someone in the Developer Ending mentions it); it's true, each crit does 9999 damage; but she has to reach Level 60, at least, to maximize her power stat.
