This game was the most amazing game I ever played. Does anyone know of any "spiritual successor" type games? the whole RPG&RTS thing?

Well, if your willing to put up with japanese, there was a bunch of semi-real time Strategy RPGs for SNES (Bounty Sword) and PSX, nothing much quite like ogre battle.

Though there was Hanjaku (Hanjuku?) Hero, it might be the closest series to ogre battle that isn't Ogre battle, except it's cartoony as fuck and not serious in the least.

There is Ogre Battle for SNES, but the game suffers from a horrible problem where the AI knows literally only a single course of action, which is to send all its units in a straight line from its HQ to your HQ.

That is literally all it does, it's pretty absurd by today's standards.

the AI in OB 64 was bad, once you kill the unit's leader it is never reassigned and you can as well consider that enemy unit as defeated.
It appears to be set to attack the weakest enemy all the game, and by weakest it means the one with lower hp even if it had more defense
enemy units always follow the same path , have the same composition
you can tank at your HQ and then after the enemy ends their only wave of units, take towns without worries

it is one of my most beloved games , but when i judge it dredd style , it lacks so much in difficulty
