Most of the weapons are done, most of the enemies are done, the big problem is mapping. As it always is, really.

So while trying to make a wave beam, I took a peak at how it was handled in dreadnought, seeing that it was using a_changevelocity, I quickly put it into play in my project.

This actually feels like handling a vehicle now. Nevermind the ugly jittering of the player sprite, it can be hacked around if some arcane combination of warp flags doesn't work. Important thing is that it works in first person perspective.

I can imagine the level designer thinking that this could be an interesting encounter. A long corridor with no cover and a powerful enemy at the end, the player has to move quick and weave left and right to dodge his shots and kill him as fast as possible when he gets close. Well, too bad.

Why use ammo when there's nothing pressuring you to do so? In these two scenarios there were no threats that are pushing the player to try to kill things as quickly as he can. You don't know how tough the next encounters are going to be and how the item placement is going to be so why not save as much ammo as you can?

I shouldn't have to make the game fun and exciting, good game design should do it for me.

I mean to be fair in Doom 1, and quake you could theoretically fight everything with your melee weapon, it'd take a long ass time, but you could do it. I'm still in full support of infinite ammo sidearms, but then again when I do such things I give them weird utility functions or some other odd quirk to make sure a player can't just use them endlessly with no penalty of some kind.

No I didn't at all. It even worked fine for the most part as I played. Once I got the crossbow is when the issue started to occasionally come up. It happened maybe 2 or 3 times. I played the first 3 levels.

Well there is some new stuff i can say.
Map 2, 4 and 6 have a boss fight at the end.

Weapons have been changed to make the gameplay more dynamic and faster.

I've played a lot with the Dynamic lighting and some 3d floors.

But after all the maps plays similar to the normal game.

And most of the time that i've spended making Discharge was on map 5 and 6. they are inspired on Sunder / Sunlust so they were very time consuming to make.

Tried map 5 and didn't like it, ended up using god mode to finish it although I suppose that's my fault for instinctively choosing hard mode.

The starting area was fine, I liked the triple arch vile setup but the pistol feels like its there just because, its useless considering we get a chaingun just before

I'm unsure about the cyberdemon, on the one hand its very difficult with the teleporting, but it is early in the map so dying isn't too much of an issue

The next battle, with the megaarmor, wasn't much fun either but this time not because of the difficulty. Two viles at once creates an intense situation but its too similar to the starting area and to add to that the imps don't do much

The following section was where I enabled god mode, dealing with 3 revenants and multiple turret enemies, including an arch in such a small space was too much for me, I tried hiding in the secret area and I tried killing the revs quickly with my 3 rockets but both strategies got me fried by the arch

Can't comment much on the final bit since I was god mode but it seemed more doable than the previous section

I can see you've put a lot of work into this map but in my opinion the floors are over-detailed to hell, which would be fine in a single map but it appears throughout the wad. You have too many different contrasting designs on the floor in each "arena" and it can be offputting, the exit zone of map 5 looks fine, for instance

Finally, I also didn't like being forced to kill each monster to move onto the next section I much prefer having the option to dash for the switches (which you did on the final battle strangely) as this can feel quite restrictive

So, when I uploaded my Heretic/Hexen compatibility pack for FinalDoomer in >>3847452, I fucked up and uploaded the wrong pk3. Here's the real one:

-There was an invalid option in the FinalDoomer options menu.
-The regular Doom class' statbar's graphics have been properly converted to paletted PNGs so they don't glitch in Heretic & Hexen palette.
-Armors have their pickup sprites.
-Rockets & Plasma Bolts have their projectile sprites.
-Heretic's keys show up in the HUD.
-In Heretic, the Tome of Power now augments your weapons, giving them explosive damage. Currently it only effects weapons on slots 2-4. Since this is just an addon, and editing the weapons would kind of ruin the point, I'm a little limited in what I can do with 'toming' the weapons.
-In Hexen, you no longer find weapon pieces. Ammo spawns instead.
-In both Heretic & Hexen, you can now set the likelihood of the Super Shotgun spawning instead of the Shotgun.

To answer the first question, I read somewhere some time ago that they were once powerful mages who were locked in a tomb as punishment or something. Apparently the engineer thought the best coffin would be a massive steel face in a viking hat.

As for the second question, I'm not sure. Many models look too good to not be digitized, but you never know. From looking at something great as a weredragon and then something not so great like a gargoyle, I have skepticism. It's a lot like Doom 2 really, look at the great sprites of the Archvile (latex), the pretty good Doomguy and Cyber (clay), and then look at the...Imp (I wager they used some paint program for him). It's a Capcom situation where we don't really know how they did their wizardry.

I never liked mirrored sprites in any game unless the thing being mirrored was symmetrical, and it would be very cool to see Corvus' extra rotations released (if they even exist), but I don't think we'll ever see them.

We know so much about Doom because it's lasting popularity and the fact that Romero's a sociable guy, but Raven Software? Heretic? Sadly, not so much. I'd really like to see behind the curtain on Heretic, and really, most other retro FPS out there.

Third weapon implemented. This acts as the screen-clearer type weapon in Mega Man games, like Rain Flush, Tornado Blow, Lightning Bolt, etc.
Damage is a little too high and ammo usage too small, at the moment.

So between spread shot ripper, the shield weapon, and this fullscreen weapon, only one more weapon needed.

Indeed, it isn't really designed with it in mind like Doom, which is ironic since you essentially needed to play like that back in 1996 (bugged saves). The most painful part is Zombies, since you can't kill them in most levels as they weren't nice enough to give you explosives.

Trying it out on an end of episode map? That is definitely painful unless it is E1M7 for obvious reasons. Episode 4 is evil in general, needing to kill Spawns with a Shotgun means you need to have good reaction times. E4M7 was quite painful as the Spawns there were able to instantly kill me regardless of health/armor once in a great while. I think all three end levels just had the Shotgun. Needless to say, E4M7 definitely has some tension. Still not as rough as E2M6 however, there is at least more room to move around and the enemies there were easier to get to infight. You need infighting a lot, especially on E2M6, where there is a ridiculous lack of ammo and giant mobs of Zombies that you cannot kill. Trust me, it's a sadists paradise, I love it :P

They're mostly 100% custom. The only ones that aren't are 3 textures that I repainted for a high(er) res Thief pack, then reshrunk down for this project (I pretty much hate all high res thief packs because they look like pure photo sources donkey dick, so I decided to mostly paint them, so they matched the mission briefings and style a bit better - got through Baffords manor and then work and life interfered and the project was dropped...).

So they're still custom, but you might not be able to tell really and just think "he ripped these from Thief" which is kinda true... The more I think about it the more likely I am to change them out later for others that can be swapped with little notice...

All right, let me be constructive and actually write something about this aside from an anime girl screencap.
I'm half and half on the matter and I'm not sure what half I'm leaning on.

Mike's an incredibly skilled sprite artist, but he's known for working at a pace that's...glacial at best. This could give him the incentive needed to pick up his pace and work harder. His MGQ3D thing has been moving at lightning speed compared to HDoom, I assume because of this.
He does, however, need to do more than porn. I remember there was talk earlier of an artist who would make sprites to be distributed among the community to use as they wanted, this could be great use for Patreon and Doom stuff.

There's also the big elephant in the room, the same one that hangs over Mark's patreon--a lot of the work on HDoom isn't actually Mike's. TZK and Stapler-san did a lot of the coding. Other hentai artists came up with monster designs for HDoom and a lot of them are just Doom monsters as anime girls which is certainly okay with me but there's a lot of argument to be made for imagination here. Will they be getting a cut of the funds?

Wolfenstein 3D has both a quality ZDoom port and a great sourceport that supports Android in the form of ECWolf.

Duke Nukem 3D does not have a good mobile port, and probably won't for a long time.

Shadow Warrior was on iOS for a little while, but has since been delisted. An insane Russian gentleman is porting it to GZDoom, but it's gonna take a while and probably won't work with the current Android ports of GZDoom.

Blake Stone hasn't got much in the way of source ports full stop yet. There was poking at a GZDoom port by the Wolf3D guy, but it didn't go far.
