Did you have any demo disks as a kid? Which were the best?

Any game with a demo was awesome

It was like two games for one

When I was a kid, if your PS1 wasn't modchipped, the only thing it could do was play demos.
I'd always go to a friend's house just so I could play a Spiderman demo he had. Playing around with the engine was so fun that I didn't even think about the rest of the levels.

>> No.3823241

my favorites were the squaresoft ps1 demo discs and the namco ps2 discs.

squaresoft used to put demo discs in with games and they were basic, but before youtube it was all you had for any visual presentation of a game that wasnt a tiny picture in a magazine. I think they did it like 3 yrs in a row. I know parasite eve 1 comes with the '98 demo disc.

Namco did it best. They would make a demo disc on ps2 and included custom saves on it as well. The one that comes with soul calibur 3 has save data for xenosaga, items for another game, and a demo of a 3rd.

Now that I think of it, my mario kart double dash has a demo disc too. I recall that one having dlc content for fire emblem on it.

I only had PS2 demo discs from the official playstation magazine

turns out, one of them had a spyro demo that corrupted your memory cards

wish I'd known that earlier...

The PC Gamer demo discs with Coconut Monkey are fucking amazing. They had an ongoing mystery plot and weird ass Must puzzles unrelated to the demo content. I wonder if anybody has archived those?

This demo disc got more play than some of my games. Also was a god send when I first got my DC and didn't pick up an actual game until 2 weeks later.

played the hell out of this. Had the entire map memorized for Clockwork Knight 2 and Bug, tried nearly every played in the baseball game, and Sega Rally is still one of the very few racing games I can play halfway decent. And I watched the "more games" demo so many times, the music was so catchy.

We sold the Megadrive for a Saturn, and the first demo I watched was Virtua Fighter 2, it was mind blowing.

I don't know about the rest of the world but UK magazines in the 90s had nothing but demodiscs

The Pizza Hut ones were the most memorable imo. I probably spent more time with the demo of thps1 than the full game when I finally got the game. Didn't they also have spyro and ff8 on them as well? Good shit.

Oh btw, does anyone remember a game called IQ on the PlayStation? I played it on a demo disc when a friend of mine got his ps1 back in 1997 or so, first game I ever played in the system. Never played the full game

Oh shit yeah I forgot about the spider man game. I played the shit out of the demo, but never got the full game. Clinging to any surface and being able to swing on a whim was awesome. It was a ton of in-game freedom for it's time.

Sure do. Old man got the ToysRUs demos from his work at, well ToysRUs. They came with the PlayStation I got that year. Fun times despite not understanding how the tech worked. Don't recall how I got the red one.

Oh man I remember this one. Must've played the Kurushi demo a million times. Loved it to death. Too bad the full game goes for an unreasonable amount nowadays.

I used to steal demo discs out of the tip and tricks magazine. It always had some awesome ps1 games. Then I found out you could do some kind of cheat code and it would spin the game preview windows and it showed bonus games you could demo. It was fuckin awesome.

I had one with three Activision PC games - A-10 Cuba!, Time Commando and Muppet Treasure Island - as a kid. I didn't like A-10 Cuba! but loved the other two.

>> No.3827182

I should have some around, mostly pc, xbox and psx/ps2 since magazines with demos were pretty strong from 99 to 2005 or so.

The one I had most memories was one of the Saturn with PDZwei, the Golden Axe fighter, Baku Baku and Sega Rally.

>>3826542
That's too much.
When the console was released there was a demo disc called Dream On, had Ready 2 Rumble, Toy Commander, Incoming, Trickstyle and something else playable and videos(which sold me Power Stone at the go).
I played Ready 2 Rumble demo way too much, I didn't even wanted to start playing SA1

I was just using one of these Pizza Hut discs the other day to test out an s-video cable for my Playstation. It came with demos of a Crash game, MGS, Medievil, Gran Turismo and I think one other game.

The menu music was EXTREME NU-METAL as fuck, it was great.

Also, I forgot that Pizza Hut used to have a Sicilian Crust.

Intelligent Qube? Yeah, I had that demo disc too I think. Did it come with the PS1? I bet I got rid of mine when I sold my original Playstation and all my games.

The one with Gangway Monsters in the imports section. To this day I'm still disappointed that it doesn't have a translation in some form because I had a shitload of fun with the demo.
