PSX, NES, SNES, Genesis, Atari 2600/VCS, PS2, XBox 360. (In no particular order).

I'm not a fanboy of any of them, but these were the consoles that had all the good games, and were successful for many years.

The only one that was truly a standout for its time was the NES, which single-handedly saved consoles from the crash of '83, and its arcade ports were legendary.

How exactly did it save consoles? The crash only effected American consoles, the industry in the rest of the world was doing swell. You can't even say it saved US consoles because the US console industry remained dead untill the Xbox.

PS2 objectively has the best library. Especially if you consider that it plays 99.9% of PS1 titles, and that there were a ton of SNES to PS1 ports (yes, a lot of them had bad loading times, but the PS2 has a fast load option that alleviates that).

Yes it does, especially when the console does it out of the box with no extra hardware with nearly perfect compatibility.
>>3821630
It's not made by Nintendo or Sega, isn't retro, and had the weakest hardware of its generation due to its competitors coming out 2-3 years later. Games don't matter, you see.

>> No.3821637

>>3821630
That whole generation is garbage except for the DC and Xbox. The PS2's library is unparalleled in the amount of garbage it has, and in retrospect it's not good.

Nice try, the games are the issue. The hardware being utterly pathetic is just an unfortunate truth.

Care to explain to a dude in his thirties why there's any good reason, besides your personal nostalgia-blindness and senility, why you'd place it on a list instead of N64, Wii, 3DS, Saturn, PS2, PS3, PSP, or countless other systems?

Are you nuts? It has the largest and best library by far out of any game machine except a PC. And it has possibly the most retro ports too. You can play almost anything from Metal Slug to Dragon Force to Parodius to Chrono Trigger on it.

>The PS2's library is unparalleled in the amount of garbage it has, and in retrospect it's not good.

If you want to judge a console by the amount of shovelware it has, then the Genesis, SNES and NES are all easily as bad as the PS2.

See, people like this miss the point. Dreamcast had a slew of earthshattering games in the span of a little over a year. Probably more than any other system in that short a time period. That's why it's so highly rated. But all you care about is what you can get out of it today. Not the point.

Totally false. Try 10 years anyway.

Exactly, so we're basing it on how good they are, not "how influencial or groundbreaking it was at the time". The person who does the latter may as well not even like videogames, it's an absurd statement.

>> No.3821865

Atari doesn't have merits to appear on either. Enthusiasts know better, and normies couldn't look at its games without scoffing.

Bullshit, the 2600 has lots of excellent games. Just because you don't like them doesn't make them irrelevant.

Other than the Xbox line, name one successful US console after the crash.

The NES filled a gap in the market left by the crash and was hugely influential, but it didn't save any industry, if anything it was the final nail in the US console industry's coffin. It lead to Japan dominating the console market and US companies were unable to compete, untill Microsoft came along.
