What is the best Final Fantasy game and why is it Mystic Quest?

>> No.3819513

That's a funny way of spelling Final Fantasy X-2

It certainly gets too much hate, I liked it more than most Final Fantasy's because atleast it doesn't pretend to be such deep story

Bravely Default is more canon to Final Fantasy than that abomination.

The soundtrack as a whole is more solid than the rest of the games.

Silly Dark King that's not how you use a bow.

>> No.3819598

I played through that entire game at least twice, each time beating the Dark King the hard way. THEN I finally learn you can just heal his ass to death.

It gets way too much hate for the wrong reasons.
As a child, I loved it and it's actually a great entry title for getting into jrpgs.

It also has a lot of nice little features that no other FF title used, like chopping trees that block your path, using bombs to blow up rocks or hockshots to get over pitfalls.

And then there's the music, of course.

As for the best FF game; there is none.

My favourites are 4, 6 and 8.

I just finished it playing a few days ago. I definitely agree with you. The story was uninteresting, and while the gameplay was battle gameplay was watered down, it's the first Final Fantasy I've seen with actual level design. The field abilities with weapons and jumping were really tight, and the visible enemies were a nice touch (even if they didn't move). I can see it being a good "entry level" RPG (which it's supposed to be), and to be honest it's more fun than certain other Final Fantasies.

Well it's definitely a good game. Sure, it's very simplified but that's on purpose, and honestly a lot of modern RPGs could learn from it.

Agreed.

This game was my first true foray into the rpg genre. At the time, I was only around 6(btw, I called critical hits..."cancel hits", which I knew were good, but continued to mispronounce until my Dad corrected me)

But I have good memories of this game; playing it in a blue storage box with my old blanket in front of the old boob tube was truly "comfy".

Not sure what I can say that hasn't already been said, but I would like to reiterate that upon revisiting this, it's really a bit tedious with the battlefield grinding and very long dungeons.

That being said, it was very good for what it was, and it still holds a close place in my heart.

Also, the zodiac teleport symbols always felt like they hid some bigger secret, but as far as I can tell, most are just for minor rewards or a spell or two(iirc).

It's a comfy, simple game but it purposefully held itself back in a way that kept it from being anything more than enjoyable desu.

>>3819526
Who cares about canon and tradition? Final Fantasy X-2 is fucking fun. The most fun I've had with a Final Fantasy game until I played Lightning Returns. Sure, I prefer VI and VII over them but damn were those two a blast to play.

It deserves hate.
If you get the six million gold to buy the bombs from that faggot Tristram at the start the game still follows the script....

>> No.3822182

this game had three good things:
1. kickass battle/dungeon music
2. the defend mechanic
3. humorous images of damaged enemies

the tools were alright but pointless, and everything else was shit.

try fighting only necessary battles. you soon won't have the initiative in battles, and most encounters will be a diceroll by about halfway through the game. if the enemies decide to combo you with disabling status effects (that you can't protect against, by the way), you die. this game didn't need a retry option; it needed non-garbage design.

i liked this game as an idiot kid. that may have been an acceptable excuse, but it isn't anymore. so i put on the soundtrack and do anything else.
