Oh man I fukken love collecting. It's really a game itself, which is why so many gamers are into it. Going out to stores and buying shit is basically the modern equivalent of going out on a hunt. There's excitement when you find something cool for a good price, and mystery when you find a game you've never heard of, and you have to judge it by its cover.

I can still emulate if I want to, though I usually don't. I appreciate emulation in the context of game archival, and I think playing mystery roms you've never heard of in your fullset is a fun game all its own.

And I love the aesthetic of games on a properly shallow shelf. motherfuckers who put their games in deep bookshelves, i pity you
