Also known as I wish Cave Story were five years older so I could discuss it here thread...

So, I love metroidvanias, but I'm terrible at them. What are some good ones that are on the easier side?

>> No.381358

Symphony of the Night has a downward difficulty curve that drops entirely once you have the crissaegrim.

>> No.381424

This reminds me of a question I've had.

If I play lots of games, will I just get better at those games, or will I get better at video games in general? Is it possible to improve my reflexes and hand-eye coordination?

>> No.381454

This thread would be more appropriate on /v/ since most exploration platformers aren't retro, including the castlevania games. Symphony of the night is as easy as it gets though.

>>381424
Obviously you will get better at similar games. Mastering the first castlevania will make the third one easier. Playing lots of bullet hell games will make you better at new bullet hell games you start. This is of course assuming you don't savestate, cheat or do anything similar.

>>381454
Fair enough. I'll move it there. Sorry about that.

>> No.381475

Being an avid Super Metroid fan I always though it's kinda disrespectful to tie it in with SotN, since I didn't think much of it. I admit the visuals and music is phenomenal, but the gameplay is ridiculously easy and ruins it.

Yeah, I've never understood the need to coin that term.
>>381454
There's plenty of classic games that fit the description and I rather not see be cursed to be discussed elsewere.
I've seen a couple of Ufouria threads, but my favourite will always be Dragon's Trap.

Why wouldn't you be able to discuss it?

SotN should have been called Pinata Gallery of the Night...seriously 90% of the enemies you face never even get a chance to attack you

I've always thought Order of Ecclesia was rather easy, even though some people complain about the difficulty. It's just a matter of finding the right power or item that lets you rape your way through a section.

I've always been pretty mediocre at castlevania games and Ecclesia just clicked for me. Although most boss medals and the Hard modes are still out.

So is anyone going to suggest any Metroidvanias? Because I want more of them but nobody fucking makes them anymore. They weren't too popular before 2001 either seeing as they required so much skill and planning.

>> No.390583

I would 100% play a romhack like in OP's pic.

Anyone else in here played Exile? If you thought the original Metroid was good this game'll knock your socks off.

This isn't easy really (nor am I sure it's definitively retro) but I feel the need to post it anyway

I aways assumed metroidvanias where Castlevania games that have levels/maps like metroid. Do people actualy use that name for games that arn't Castlevania?

It's termed because of collecting upgrades as well, which is a feature in both games
