DOS shmups. What's your favourite?
Tyrian personally, for me.
Just listen to the music, you'll get a good idea of what you're getting into.

Tyrian isn't a DOS shump. They've released the source, now it's multiplat.

I'll also add Raptor as another bad example of a DOS shump. You need to run it in something like DOSBOX to remap extra buttons to select particular weapons. Otherwise, it's on the lame side. Of course, there's an exception if you happen to have something like a powerramp that lets you emulate keystrokes.

>>3781327
Yes! It's quite neat with the mouse!

There's also Baryon if you want something nastily hard.

>Tyrian isn't a DOS shump
That's kinda pedantic to say something isn't a DOS game just because some random guys ported it to mobile 12 years after it was released.

>>3781738
Mobile? That's a common measly thing for such games, having iOS and android ports. The hired bunch of guys translated the original pascal code into C or somesuch, which is now freely available. So it can be played on, I dunno, a hacked or such?

Not like there actually were particularly many of them.

Even with ones like Sideline.

I loved how the bullets/effects in Tyrian would become Christmas-themed in December. Always made me excited for Christmas.

Thinking of playing this but heard the Saturn port is the most censored version.

Any good PC-Engine emulators to are not shareware?

isn't OpenTyrian based on an older (2.x) version/release of the game?

Tyrian2000 (3.x) has afaik a fifth episode and a bunch more ships

it would be nice having the best of both worlds..
playing OpenTyrian on PSP is so comfy

Yeah. I just think the extras aren't worth it when playing the sourceport feels much more fluid than playing it in a dosbox.

I think the only one I've played is MachineNation, if that's even a shmup.
