ITT: Retro Games you have down to a science, meaning you are so incredibly good at them that when you play, you just go through the motions and just enjoy the aesthetics

>> No.377952

Contra games, with a bit of practice. It all comes back to me eventually.

>> No.378019

Super Metriod.

I seriosly play it like once a year, just because I enjoy it.

A friend of mine has I believe super mario bros 1-3 and super mario world down to a science.

As for me, I would probably say:
Pokémon Gold
Digimon World
Banjo Kazooie
Banjo Tooie

For a given value of retro, I'm the same way with Minish Cap. Lovely world, short game.

Any THQ wrestling game on N64 I'm ashamed to admit. Both one vs one and against the computer.

Same for me, it takes me a couple of hours to 100% it. Hardest part is getting all the notes in Rusty Bucket Bay. Fucking engine room.

Megaman X 1-3 are practically second nature to me. I don't even get angry when I die. I'm usually MORE appreciative of the game that it can still sometimes get the better of me.

Not to shit on your sense of achievement, but is it really possible to be bad at Zelda? Once you know the solutions to the puzzles everyone's going through the motions. Combat offers, like, nearly zero challenge.

Final Fantasy VII
Super Mario 64
Sonic 2

>> No.378469

Every Megaman Classic and X series game, I have down to a science.

The only exception is Megaman 5, which for some reason manages to kick my ass. Probably because it was the only Megaman game I didn't have in my youth.

Xenogears: I probably have memorized every boss's pattern and the absolute most efficient way of defeating them off the top of my head, and can break the game midway through just knowing where all the cheesy items are.

The first two Donkey Kong Countries I have to pretty much pretend I'm terrible to not blow through each stage at Sanic speed.

NHL '95 I win 20-0 every game with the lowest time setting and random imaginary limitations set for myself.

Tetris Attack/Panel de Pon/Pokemon Puzzle League

Bitches don't even KNOW.

When you hit that fucking perfect zen and move with all the speed of a Lv.9 CPU...

When you can do a perfect midair swap or a three block left/right shuffle on a flat 5/6-block chain(sliding the block on the side of the horizontal 5/6 combo over in the split second after it 'breaks' to skillchain another 3), you just feel so GOOD.

Though, to be honest - setting chains is much harder than setting skillchains. If you see someone good at plain chains, chances are they'd be, or -are- good at Puyo Puyo.

Yoshi/Bumpty godtier in TA, Flare godtier in Panel de Pon, Lorelei/Blaine godtier in PPL, Klug/Suketoudara godtier in Puyo Puyo

Also Gitaroo Man.

Original Zelda

My dad played the crap out of it when I was young and he had one of those big Nintendo Power players guides that had short 1-4 page guides for pretty much every popular NES game at the time. It had an overworld map and he marked a lot of the secrets on the map in pen. I still have the guide somewhere but a lot of the info on the map I know by memory. I'm not super fast at the game but I can beat it with every heart and every item in about 2 or 3 hours.

Besides Elvis in Area 51 you can run ahead and leave the escort behind no problem, they're usually pretty decent at fending for themselves. Especially if you've killed everything already anyway.

Dr Carrol for example, don't let him enter the lift in the beginning of the level, he'll catch up later but you'll ahve done 90% of the level by that point
