Be careful for what you wish for ;)

No we don't. Grow up. Move on.

The 90s were a simpler time. I'd be fine with it coming back, if it meant shit in general started sucking less.

Trump is the president, things definitely don't suck right now.

Games sure do, a lot of devs have the wrong mindset and approach when it comes to making video games.

Let's discuss 90s vidya and the general themes surrounding them, it seemed like it was a lot of grunge, rock, metal, demons and shit.

Doom and quake are good examples of this, but I think the other important thing about all of this grunge and shit was it feels like it never took itself too seriously.

were the 90s a simpler time? Or were you just a dumb kid who didn't know better?

>> No.3770598

It was simpler back then with video games. Corporations and shareholders didn't have a deathgrip on the industry like they do now.

I never understood why people got butthurt about Douk when he was an obvious parody of what they're getting butthurt over in the first place. Fucker watched soaps in his first game.

You're just equating ID software with 90s games

Not necessarily, a lot of 90s games had the influences I mentioned in some way

Megaman X for example had a lot of rock influences in its soundtrack, same thing with Spiderman: Separation anxiety. Like OP posted with Comix Zone, protags wore sunglasses, had cocky attitudes and often were inexplicably capable of kung fu because it was REALLY cool during the 90s, same thing with ninjas.

We're getting a lot of platformers this year.

Yooka-Laylee and Sonic Mania are straight out of the '90s.

I would really like that credo of the '90s to return. A time when game devs experimented with different play styles and art styles because of technological limitations.

Getting a taste of that with indies for the past few years but I want an interesting game with some money behind it.

The problem is the moment a lot of money comes behind it, shareholders and bigwigs come in and make sure everything adheres to specific standards.
