Hello /vr/

So a friend of mine has a big box filled with old vidya consoles. He says they all work, and have all the cords. Pic related. But I want to know how much you think this is all worth, just so I'm not spending too much. He said $100 bucks for everything, but he's willing to haggle.

Any input would be appreciated

>> No.376439

100$ is p good for those but still try to jew him down some

>> No.376460

Assuming he is telling the truth and those all work, that is a very good price. Especially given the fat PS2. Those things working is a miracle.

>> No.376605

I'd go for it.

Well you aren't getting ripped off, but it's not a good deal.

>saturn 30
>x2 ps1 - 20

I guess It depends on what controllers and cables you are getting. If they all have at least 1 controller and the cables, it's a fair deal but nothing great.

>> No.376875

Where I live people, not even resellers or stores, would charge $300 for all that. I'd go for it. They're a bit dusty and grimy but they can be cleaned and seem to be in decent condition otherwise

Besides, he's your friend. Just pay $100 for it

I don't understand why everyone claims the fat PS2 is unreliable. I dusted mine off a few months ago after it sat 3 years in my parents' basement, because I have better consoles to take with me to college.

Thing worked perfectly with both S-Video and Composite

Oh, just googled it. Apparently it's a very common issue, and can be corrected by either replacing the laser with a newer one, or just cleaning the lens with a Q-tip. I may in fact do that.

Only reason I haven't bothered to care much is that I already have a slim ps2 that I inherited from my dad since he got a ps3.

Might try to q-tip clean it tomorrow for fun.

I work in a retail store that carries older games and systems I can give you a decent rundown.

>PS1 systems
$2 at most. Those things are so damn common you will never have trouble finding them. We can't even give them away at my job.

>Xbox
If it is indeed working at least $15 - $20. Make sure you test it first because the main thing that almost always breaks on those is the disc tray not the laser eye.

>PS2
I'd say at least $25 - $30 if it works. Make sure you test with every type of disc it can read (there are 4 different colors of discs it reads).

>Saturn
$30 on average for a working one, try and go for $25 though.

>Gameboy
Since the screen lens is missing I'd say about $10. The lens alone is going to set you back a few dollars. Make sure to check for battery leakage before buying it though.

Basicly, just be thorough and test EVERYTHING.

OP here.

Thanks for all the input gents. I asked him, and he claims they all work, but I'm hanging out with him at his house tomorrow, so I'll have plenty of time to test them out.

Here's the kicker, I jokingly said "I'll give ya $20 and a case of beer (about $20 bucks if bought at the right distributer, since I'm a PA fag) and he said he'd do it. So in total, I'll spend about $40 on the lot. The way I see it, worst case scenario they all don't work, they will make nice display pieces for my console shelf since I don't have any of those consoles except for the fatty ps2.

I'll post an update tomorrow and some pics. He says he has a bunch of games to go with them. Mainly ps2/1 and Saturn with a few genesis games. I'm hoping he has some good gems and it will make this all the more sweet. Thanks for the help guys!

If the PS2 can't read blue discs, go ahead and Top-Load mod that fucker. Really easy mod, and you can just use a swap disc to get it to read the thing.

It's what I have to do to play my copy of Contra: Shattered Soldier, unfortunately. But hey, at least it works.

>> No.379807

>>379618

A PS1 mod chip is literally just a little off-the-shelf 8-pin SOIC with a publicly available program on it.

Anyone with a chip programmer can make one. For installation there's 3, 5 or 7 wires to solder up depending on the model of playstation. You can just stick it in there on another IC with a drop of glue, dead bug style.

>>379785

Hell you can defeat the PS1's copy protection just by timing a disc swap correctly.

>> No.379809

>>379618

Also if you ever consider burning ISO's/back-ups/whatever, make sure you get some proper media for it. The Playstation disc laser is pretty finicky, so go for something like Verbatim Data Life Plus cd's, they're made with some sort of blue azure dye that the Playstation has a pretty easy time picking up on and reading.

Best resident evil game?

I always thought Survivor was underrated. Not saying it's the best (in fact it's almost definitely my least favourite) but I enjoyed the novelty of using the gun instead of a controller.
