I miss Snowboard Kids and Snowboard Kids 2.

>> No.3752460

classic. #1 was way better though. I dont really have any desire to play #2 if the first one is available. Agree?

No. 2 had better controls and better levels.

snowboard kids is a great example of excellent concept, design and aesthetic, but mediocre gameplay.

if they fixed the gameplay it would have been 10/10 and I would have loved to see more.

>>3752513
better controls? been a while since I payed them but the levels in #1 seemed to flow way better. #2 had a bunch of big jumps that landed on flat ground which caused you to lose your momentum.

>> No.3752542

>>3752530
But 2 was easier to do tricks in for some reason.

>> No.3752548

>>3752542
never had a problem doing hella tricks in #1. Is that really your reason to say it had better controls? Thats pretty fucking lame. Your opinion is completely irrelevant now.

Recently picked up the japanese version, it has much more tolerable voice acting ("jom" vs "jayyum!!!"). but playing through it these days I find usually moves too slow and the courses are boring/repetitive. Still a huge nostalgia game for me though. Never played 2 somehow.

>> No.3753764

>>3753207
excellent choice. Jap version is what I play too. Do you play single player? That would explain the boring part.

Hows the playstation port of snowboard kids? Are the new characters any good?

I grew up with 1 and only quite recently did I play 2, it felt rather lackluster. not only tricks, but also the way momentum works was changed and the levels somehow lacked charm overall, they're blown up in proportions but not as nicely crafted.
don't know, may be my nostalgia for the first part, I suppose I wasted over 100 hours of my life on this game.

>who night highway here?

>> No.3753957

>>3753848
Yeah thats what I was saying. It isn't nostalgia. I grew up with both and upon revisiting them as an adult the 1st one has clearly better gameplay. The simplicity of the tracks themes and settings is also really charming compared to the zany settings of #2.

>> No.3753971

>>3753957
Agreed. 1 is classic. 2 has too much going on. Being able to repeat tricks in the air, too many boards, every level is like a Disneyland park, too many characters, the town menu thing is kind of weak. I did enjoy a couple of the extra modes, like delivering the papers, but that's about it. 1 is way more reserved and interesting.

2 is steering towards that 2000's hip and extreme, which also put me off and makes it stylistically rather dated. look, we've mentioned the internet in the town menu and boosts now work with rockets. 1 is simply more appealing via not trying too much.

I've never played these but I loved cool boarders 2 and the SSX games. I'd like to check it out

Loved it, was gutted they didn't release SK2 in EU terrs. Some of the jams are total nostalgia.

Anyone play the DS game? Is it worth it?

>> No.3758225

>>3758181
No, it's awful. Getting hit with items require you to do stupid shit like blowing or screaming at the DS microphone. They added a stupid story mode with shitty teen romance and the tracks design lost most of what made them memorable.

>> No.3758260

All I remember is the controls being terrible and the fat snowboarded rendering the game unplayable.

I enjoyed it though, it's probably the most hardcore racing game after F-Zero GX. Like if you veer just slightly off the track, you're flat on your ass for 5 seconds.

>> No.3758509

>>3758260
None of my friends could ever understand the controls. They didn't understand that you had to press diagonally down to make any sharper turns.

There's nothing quite like that scramble for the ski lift which fucks up the rest of the race either.

it's timeless indeed. music really is an integral part of the game.

Grass Valley is a close second as a favourite level, that shortcut at the end is just hilarious and creates very tense situations when one player has the turbo item and the other the pan. Was it just me or is the left route at the start (so the one not going down the mine) disqualifyingly long?

>> No.3758782

I only ever rented the first game as a kid. Owned the second game and loved it though. Becomes a whole new games once you unlock the rocket board.

>>3758509
This applies to the second game as well. Any time I've introduced people to the game they didn't get it.

For z parachute. Fucking ridiculously effective item if you hit someone with it. Can literally take someone from first to last.

For b, either the pans or the rocket. If it's near the start of the race the mouse that takes everyone's money is really good too.
