I think the genesis originals are fun for a play through. Far from my favorites, but above average. How anyone finds the 3D or modern Sonic games appealing is far beyond my understanding.

Sonic 1, 2, 3 & K are great. Memorable tunes and levels. Bosses were nice, but too easy. Chaos Emerald collecting was usually a pain except in 3&K.

I also liked Sonic 3D, but it's a different beast.

I replayed them recently and they're still fun. Unlike the Adventure games which I find too flawed to enjoy anymore.

The fanbase horrified me and still does to this day. Even as an awkward nerdy teenager it scared me and actually helped me straighten up a little.

1 and 2 are enjoyable. I actually don't enjoy 3 as much. CD was more my favorite for /vr/ Sonics.
In my defense though I didn't get how to get into special stages in 3.

I beat Sonic 1 and 2 recently, because the Sonic series is supposedly a classic and a must-play for anyone who calls themselves a videogame enthusiast.
It turned out they weren't very fun at all. Not to mention they were really short. And they don't feel like they have the same "tightness" in their design as other classic platformers.
The music was pretty good though.

I think the Genesis Sonic games are pretty average length compared to other platformers at the time. If you're good you can play most of them within an hour or two. Maybe you just found them exceptionally easy so they seemed shorter.

Genesis games 1-3&K are pretty good, not sure what to think of CD, and while I like Colors and Generations, there is room for innovation. Hoping that Mania and PS2017 will help deliver on both fronts.

He's got too many friends though. They should just keep the fan favorites (main characters in the Genesis games and SA games, the latter being because they've become too popular. Would ditch Shadow, Rouge, Silver, Blaze, etc. in a heartbeat otherwise. not Big though, as long as he isn't playable and is just treated like a joke ) and get rid of the others.
