Did they try to emulate an arcade feel with this game when considering the ui visuals and soundtrack? Was this game made at a time when arcades were dying? Why did they never release an american version? Sin & Punishment is actually pretty fun and the controller works well with the gameplay. I don't have much exposure to arcade games so I can't say if it's worthy of it being in the arcades. But, I am wondering if an arcade version of this what do you think should be changed?

Uh dude, Treasure mostly made arcade style games. Have you never played any of their other stuff like Ikaruga or Gunstar Heroes?

Yes, unless you consider Cabela's Big Game Hunter or Golden Tee Golf the pinnacle of the arcade experience.

I have played Gunstar Heroes for a bit, and in my mind it's a console game.

Both those games sold way more than Sin and Punishment

This game absolutely should have had an arcade release, in an ideal world the Aleck64 hardware would have gotten this game, as well as Rush 2 and Fighter's Destiny as coin op releases instead of a bunch of shovelware puzzle garbage and the N64 would have had a much better standing in Japan than it does now

No, they did try it, considering that it has credits and scoring.

It never got an actual coin operated release, although it'd be interesting to see somebody hack it up so that it behaves like an arcade game. I'd run a dedicated machine for it

Well it's not any more console than S&P, so I have no idea what you're talking about. In fact S&P is an easier game due to the automatic lock-on.

The automatic lock-on is only helpful when you need to focus more on evading, but the lock-on shots deal less damage than the regular, manual shots

>Sin & Punishment is proof you can have an ass soundtrack and completely forget about it because the gameplay and visuals are so immersive.

Damn... I never actually thought about tbqh.

I decided Sin & Punishment was a masterpiece at the "flying around on a piece of debris" stage

Marvel vs Capcom 2, DDR, Tekken Tag, House of the Dead 2, Initial D and more were still huge draws in the year 2000 where I'm from.

Same here, it's still my favorite stage in the game, lots of crazy missile deflection and left-right hand coordination for shooting and evading at the same time. Learning this stage feels like doing a fun coreography, probably the best experience I've had with a 3D on-rails shooter. I loved the sequel on the Wii, but nothing on it could top this level.

There's one but it involves using the texture replacement feature of rice's plugin, otherwise there's Nintendo's official translation which only exists as a virtual console WAD

jeez. thank you, guys, that's too much of a hassle to go through for me. When I checked the game out I was genuinely interested in the lunacy flashing in the cut-scenes, I guess I'll just breeze through.

Sin and Punishment was meant to be released in the US, but it came out fairly late in the N64's lifespan and Nintendo wanted to focus more on the Gamecube's launch.
