Since /v/ won't help, I'll reduce my search to games that are considered retro. This is a specific mechanic I'm looking for

>Game with RPG elements
>It isn't turn based nor is it the traditional real time with prolonged animations

>each fight between characters or units consist of quick scuffles that may consist of an animation and ends within a matter of seconds

Basically, I'm looking for a game that auto-determines the winner of a fight between characters once encountering them; rather than showing a prolonged battle animation

Does such a game exist in the retro realm? Pic unrelated

I would say Earthbound or Secret of Mana, but I don't know of any that do it automatically.

That sounds an awful lot like Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru (For Frog the Bell Tolls)

A lot of 8-bit games were like that, like Hydlide and the early Ys games.

Fucking thank you all, I don't even know if this has a official name, but I wanted to find a game that fitted the criteria

Thanks again /vr/, you never disappoint
