This one made me lose my shit, I only found out about it this year.
If you equip only the charge beam + another beam, select the power bombs and charge your beam, it'll trigger a useless but otherwise cool special attack, a different one for each (ice, wave, spazer and plasma).
Was this in the manual? Otherwise I'm not sure how anybody would stumble upon this since there's not much reason to unequip beams other than ice maybe.

I'm thinking about doing a video showing all kinds of semi-secret stuff in RE3. That game has a ton of rarely seen content. I'm trying to nail the last few down, then I'll make the video.
Just a few:
- if you have the Pistol or the Magnum, and manage to dodge a Hunter or Nemesis, sometimes Jill will roll on the ground and end up in another position (one knee on the ground). She fires faster while in this position, and you can spin her around. If you release R1, she stands up.
- right after you exit the warehouse, there's a blonde girl inside a police car. The first time you pass it, you'll just hear the door being banged on, but if you go back to this street by a certain path, she'll bust out of the car and flee from a zombie. She'll be killed a few screens later.
- if you return to the beginning of the game after doing the RPD section, a lot of stuff will have changed. The lights in front of J's Bar will be out, the emergency stairs will be up, and Dario will have come out of the truck (in the warehouse).
- during the restaurant section, if you hide from Nemesis in the underground room, you're actually supposed to look for a grate where Carlos will push Jill up. However, if you wait until the water rises past a certain level, you're automatically booted back into the restaurant.
- Carlos can die while he's an NPC. It's a game over.
- When Carlos has to look around for a vaccine for Jill, Nemesis will appear one last time in front of the room Jill's at. If you let him wail on the door a few times, you get a special game over scene.
- If you shoot Nemesis right before he fires a rocket, you'll see a noticeable spark in front of the rocket launcher, and he'll miss the shot.
- remember that seemingly useless cutscene during the second Gravedigger fight, with the post being knocked over? You actually have to aim at this post with R2 and shoot at it. The water puddle will be electrified, and Gravedigger will take a lot of damage if approaches it. It can damage you too.

See these 3 statues? If you can hit them each individually they will face the opposite site and a special gold bag with 1000 (or 10000? can't remember) points will drop.
Also, you can walk backwards if you hold the attack button.
And, this is something I actually learned from an anon here but is also pretty interesting, you can actually extend the whip by 1 or 1.5 pixels if you press right (or left, depending where you're facing) right at the same moment you press the attack button (or maybe you had to time it exactly when the whip reached his longest, can't remember for sure right now).
And for some more generally known but still might be under some people's radar are the fact the first stage of Rondo is actually the same town from Simon's Quest, Aljiba, you can check it if you press up at the wooden sign post at the beginning of the level.
And also, on stage 5 (the ghost ship), there's a secret passage you can only get in with Maria, and there's just a candle and a weird looking portal or mirror, but nothing happens with it, probably was meant to be a sort of alternate path thing but later dropped mid-development.

And from Super Castlevania IV, this is also well known and is listen in most sites with cheats and secrets, but for some reason I only found about it recently, I'm talking about the hidden room in the Treasury.

Still the best in the RE series. Tank controls on point, one of few games that really drives you to explore every inch of the game, tons of secrets, very moddable, worth replaying a dozen times, lots of STARS ~WUAAHHHHH moments to shit your pants to, dialogue just cheesy enough to be entertaining. It is a masterpiece.

I don't pay much attention to the speed running community, but a friend of mine who loves Super Metroid has told me a lot of speed runners like to use some of those abilities to get through bosses faster. With there being rewards for beating the game in under certain times, I wouldn't be surprised if that's actually what they're intended for.

And yeah, crystal flash is shown in a demo. But I'm pretty sure what demo videos the game shows you is random and that one is a lot less likely to come up. I sat through like four cycles of all the other demo videos before that one came up. It's definitely not meant to be easy to find.

Id be okay with RE3 if the nemesis didnt keep popping up as much. That could be easily compensated by adding more Hunters in various places, the ones in the hospital were a nasty hardpoint all by themselves.

I know the game is about nemesis but I see him essentially as just another Mr. X from RE2.

Not too happy about ammo crafting either because it just doesnt feel like it fits, id rather find ammo like anyone else in a SHTF situation (but maybe a little randomized).

>>3746675
contrary to game thread theme I picked up on this kinda early on in Civ...

The key to winning easily is technological advantage and that means building the Colossus before anybody else and in the town that has the greatest potential for trade/sci income.

By the end of the game you have all the tech and the best runner up to you only has Musketeers and Knights.

Though the military unit values are kinda screwed in that game for the better stuff so its a painful thorn to try to take some town thats got like 8 musketeers guarding it. But you eat their smaller towns, produce settlers like crazy and disband them so they cant retake the town and eat a free tech.

Those big heavily defended towns are what you want to use a nuke on, despite the gimmicky global warming counter.

after I got UGE (universal game editor, a hex editor that can save database positions) I modded alot of stuff including Xcom and CIV1

I always increased the stats on the modern units and mid-tier units to make them hard to compete with using archaic units

knights and muskets went like 6/4 and 4/4, cannons went 16/2, frigates were 8/8 and sea transports were 8/12

modern crap was through the roof - battleship went 100/50, riflemen 20/20, tanks 40/16, mech infantry 32/32

and boats moved faster too (I set the Destroyer to move 12 spaces).

these are more representative of historical capabilities of armies

gauging the ability of zulu warriors to take on british soldiers with rifles is in game mechanics more like sending a couple military units to attack fortified phalanx and rolling (really) shitty and losing and thats it

> my face when probably the equivalent of 1 Knight unit chews through probably 10 units of aztec Warrior units before dying, both attacking and being attacked
> and it wasnt even a simple stroke of luck either but the diehard realities of steel swords and muskets verses wood and obsidian
> and then the Spanish just send in a few more Knight units to finish the job

The NES was bullshit simple when it came to game plots, mechanics, and game design.

NO fucking reason to believe complex crap like damage types would enter into the equation for something like an 8bit Mega Man game.

Just figured some of the boss weapons might do more damage... like "thats a huge fist missile thing, it must blast shit really good"

But the ones I thought would hit really hard against bosses didnt seem to do all that well so I said fuckit (guess I just had poor luck with that initial pass of the ones that I didnt use a Good Vs. weapon).

In NES games "Good Vs." usually means something like shooting the Pols' Voice with an Arrow in zelda . . . stuff that pretty much kills or bends over and fucks the monster right on the spot.

Although its old hack to me I didnt know this for at least the first 3 playthroughs for Chrono Trigger:

Go to 1000 AD and use the pendant to open the black boxes to get the special items.

Now go to 600 AD and use it to open them again to get a DUPLICATE item. The game makes mention of a paradox being averted somehow ("something inside the box is reacting to the pendant").

> I was skeered the game was gonna kill me for that just like marle disappeared but I figured id save skum to find out for a laugh

> figured the developers would be dicks and say the item I already had just disappeared

This allows you to double up on alot of suits that absorb damage for you. This is a killer thing because you cant get those armors anywhere else (not even from the place they came from - 12000bc)

I think the Red Suit is the only one you cant get this way but there are the other fire armors to make fire manageable (the second ruby armor from prehistory cuts it by 80% and thats manageable enough).

Oh man, there's something you still don't know.

Go to 600 AD and go around to all the black boxes with the pendant but DO NOT OPEN THEM. Stop when you get the "something inside the box is reacting to the pendant" message and then choose not to open them.

Then go to 1000 AD and they will all be upgraded! i.e. they will be Blue Mail etc. that absorb the elements completely instead of merely reducing damage by 50%.

Then go back to 600 AD and get the original items, too!

Nah it works for all racers. It's my favorite way to play the game.

At first I thought you had to start a new game each time, since the way to activate the cheat is to name your file RRDUAL. Then I realized you can just go back to the main menu after making the new file, load up your save and play it with two controllers. Also you have to use controller ports 1 and 3 for it to work.

It definitely adds a new dimension to the game and makes some of the easier tracks more challenging, as well as making the tougher tracks downright punishing.

Can't help but think you're simply trying to imply you only ever played Mega Man games as heroic Buster-only Runs, never knowing (in your commendably unique maverick recklessness) the boss fights could be easier.

JIC you are not: the whole thing is not a secondary "damage types" mechanic, but the core concept of the game: Rockman, as in "Rock/Paper/Scissors"

It was fuzzier originally, but in later games the idea was streamlined further so each boss has one single weakness. In the more modern games (Mega Man 8 or Mega Man X4 come to mind) the weaknesses manifest in a more detailed fashion beyond simple increasing damage: you can block or stop some boss attacks, some times paralyze or otherwise hinder them, there's special "you done fuck me up" animations, and so forth.
