Why does this game breaking difference trigger the Eurostralians?

option 1:
we don't use RGB on 99% of consumer televisions (and when we do it's usually RGBHV anyway), and using scart for example on a super nintendo requires a color space conversion which is a solution based on a compromise

option 2:
gatekeeping american RGB monitor owners who only dislike scart because you "don't need it" over bnc equipment, stating something about an impedance mismatch in scart cables that may or may not be an imperceptibly marginal difference

>> No.3739208

It doesn't. I never even knew what a SCART cable was until a few years ago.

This. I only recently found out about SCART. I have zero interest and just go with whatever. Usually S-Video or Component. If you really need RGB, use a VGA cable and some Extron converter.

It doesn't trigger me, I bought one of those a couple years ago to use RGB with my PVM.

You don't like playing faster games? Why was the US release of SMB slowed down anyway?

>> No.3739241

Because on Playstation 1 it's unnecessary. You can get RGB just by using a PS2 component cable.

Many SONY PVMs do component and RGB through the same inputs, you just flip a switch to tell it what's what.

You don't seem to understand, the PS1 doesn't support component, only RGB. So those PS2 component cables just connect to the RGB connections on the PS1.

>>3739293
Yes indeed but you would have no sync as PlayStation doesn't output RGsB.

It works on PS2 (at 480p and above) but not on PlayStation.

The trouble is that they don't transmit sync so there's no way to display the signal.

YPbPr is a separate color space from RGB, and the PS2 can display PS1 games in both. My PVM accepts RGB but not YPbPr, so I use a scart cable and adapter for playing PS1&2 in RGB. I also have an OEM YPbPr cable if I want to play them on the WEGA's much bigger screen.

I've always had the same SCART of the photo, so you can use even with the gun much better than the classic one.

You can use composite for sync on most displays and if your display doesn't support it, you can strip it with an lm1881

This is one of those things that always, always baits parrots who think they know wtf they're talking about and I'm pleased this thread was no exception.

SCART is rare to find on CRT TVs and the port takes up a lot of space.

I've always fonud it one of the more annoying cables to work with.
Especially if you're working behind a television you by leaning over it (usually because a stand is in the way.), like a USB device it never seems to want to go in first time, but unlike a USB port it's full of little prongs you can break if you force it.

I'm British though.

I know that but it's not applicable to the vast majority of PlayStation models which is what we were discussing.

Sure if you're using an SCPH-100x or that vanishingly rare Asia-only VCD model it's doable but we're getting into silly territory when SCART to BNC patchcords are easily available and probably cheaper than good quality multi-AV component cables.

I see it all the time on consumer sets (of course all of them support 60 Hz through RGB input).

Every single Playstation 1, 2 and 3 has the same analog pinouts. PS1s just can't be switched to YPbPr. I would love to know where you're buying RGB SCART cables + SCART to 6BNC cables for the same or cheaper price as Component cables + Phono to BNC adapters though.

Of course I guess I've never bought Component cables new, I just grab them for one or two dollars when I see them in used cable bins.
