I have never played OOT.
Should i play the N64 or 3DS version?

They're the exact game actually with the 3D making the menu faster thanks to the touch screen.

I mean, you can see in your image how both art styles look, just decide which looks better to you. The only other significant change is that the 3DS version makes changing items less of a hassle.

They are the same game with graphical differences and some convenience features on 3DS

N64 version has a better, more atmospheric artstyle.

3DS version has better graphics and a marginally improved framerate. Some changes were also made to make the game easier or more 'convenient'

>>3738560
The N64 version doesn't have fog unless you mean the subtle atmospheric perspective effect but I thought the 3DS had that too.

>> No.3738609

In my opinion the 3DS remake just doesn't look right. Link looks ok though I prefer the older model, but the colors are all screwed up. Everything is too bright and cheery, it feels a lot less atmospheric than the original.

I really wish they would have just ported the games with the framerate increase/added features and left the visuals alone.

Honestly the only FLAW of the 3DS version is Malon only has one adult "pose" for her model which is her hands together singing. In the original N64 version she would strike a sexy pose that showed her full bust (which is why they no doubt went this route)

I find one of the most fun things about Ocarina of Time is glitching. Im normal gameplay you won't see too many glitches and the ones you may see won't be too severe, but the ones you have to go out of your way to do are pretty cool.

Look up bottle adventure, swordless Link, infinite sword glitch, accessing dungeons early and when they should be inaccessible, etc. Play a 1.0 N64 cart. The differences in normal gameplay are minimal and while the 3DS version has some exclusive glitches, 1.0 has the most.

Also even though you can ignore them, the helper stones really shit up the atmospgere just looking dumb.

To be honest what we need is a hacked version of 3D that changes textures and lighting to be more in-line with the original, getting rid of the 'light and cheery' vibe.

Fucking look at what they did to the Final Boss area, either Nintendo outright told them to get rid of anything dark and scary or whoever designed this scene was fucking blind.

There are many many differences between the two
N64
-better colors
-20fps
-blood depending if your cart is gold
-no wonky ocarina button layout
-3 usable items at hand
-better immersion.

3DS
-more cartoony animations
-very saturated
-slower movement
-better menu system
-4 usable items at hand
-built in master quest mode
-worse lighting
-graphically superior

if none of this matters then the only thing that would is either if you like handhelds or consoles more.

They change the lighting because you can't have a dark handheld game. It doesn't work. I would like to see a remake that fixes certain textures, like Darunia's stretched face, and the lack of the Triforce on Rauru's forehead now. But the lighting is fine.

>>3739612
>>3739623
It's true but he's stretching the truth. When you target an enemy in the 3DS version they screwed up Link's walking animation so now he leans way left or way right. The only time this really affects gameplay though is when you backstep away in a straight line, almost impossible to do in OoT3D. On the other hand, N64 Link has a limit of like 8 or walking speeds, while OoT3D borders on at least twice that. The controls are more interactive. However, to play devil's advocate, one thing he didn't mention is you can only barely sidejump and jump attack in OoT3D if you time it right (something they did fix in MM3D). ON the other foot though, you can still perform the jump attack sheathe draw in OoT3D, which is what pro players do. I.e. if you hold L, and then hit A a certain amount of frames (OoT3D is 30fps so I would guess around 3 frames) after you hit B, Link will draw into a jump attack.

This is correct, except the GC version have the green blood and removed all the islamic imagery.

I guess the best way to play the original is by injecting the 1.0 ROM in a Wii virtual console WAD. That way you get the best of both worlds.

Bullshit, it's not on a GBA or something - the 3DS is backlit and its brightness can go all the way up to painful levels. Besides that, it literally changes the entire fight. You're not SUPPOSED to be able to see Ganon well, the only thing you really saw was that tail and that was part of the difficulty, at least in my mind.

Walking movement is something that is onlh me I guess. I should have clarified on that it was from observation on youtube I never really touched OoT3D. I talked about it with a buddy of mine about it back when I was in highschool and he thought 3D was much faster himself.

You are overlooking something my friend. On a portable, even a little sunlight instantly renders the screen dim. You can't have a dark game on a portable, and EXPECT IT TO BE PORTABLE. I've owned every single Nintendo handheld except for DSi. I know what I'm talking about. The Ganon fight is a necessary compromise. I know what you mean about the tail being hard to see, but it's a moot point.

>>3740758
Ah, I see. Well I never noticed a difference, and going off my best Epona race time of 58 and Running man of 1:48, I can't imagine there is. That's exactly what I manage to get in both on the N64.

>> No.3740886

If you care about censorship, play version 1.0 or 1.1 on N64. 1.0 is the gold carts.

Old Zelda games used to feature lots of real world mythology, that's why Link's horse is named Epona (Celtic horse goddess). Ocarina of Time was the last game to do this, because people started complaining.

There's three versions of OoT, 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2. The only differences between 1.0 and 1.1 are some glitches removed and 1.1 isn't gold colored, 1.2 is the censored version.

1.2 has an Islamic symbol removed, and a vaguely Islamic (and very beautiful) song removed. Red blood is replaced with green blood.

If you don't care about censorship then all it really boils down to is what system you want to play it on. Everyone here will freak out about colors being slightly different but you already said you don't care about graphics.

If you already have both a 3ds, gamecube(a wii is fine too) or a n64, then I suggest you go with the 3ds version. Not only is it the cheapest(go for an auction on feebay), the graphics are quite nice and despite being kind of gimmicky(good fucking luck aiming with 3d on!), you can aim your slingshot/bow with the 3ds console itself.

And get this- the tracking? It's actually really, really accurate(so good in fact, I never felt it was the controls fault I missed- only ever mine, a sign of very tight control)! Again, kind of gimmicky, but still cool.
