What are some of the best versions of /vr/ games that you know of?

It can be a romhack that revises the game, adding in cut content, doing a better translation, adding small functionality tweaks, improves graphics, or some kind of massive overhaul.

Official and unofficial remakes or ports also count. Just nothing that alters the game to the point of being a different game, like level layouts, story alterations, ect.

They can be huge improvements like pic related, or they can be something as minor as making the mini map in Zelda 1 not useless.

Optional side topic: What kind of improvements would you like to see added to a /vr/ game that wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for a skilled romhacker.

Hyper SF2 and Hyper SF Alpha, although Alpha could've benefited from at least an arcade mode or something.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 is just barely /vr/ right? THUG Pro takes those maps, plus ones from all the other games in the series, and puts them into one game. It also lets you do cool shit like modify quirks in the physics and controls.

Honestly there are a ton of retro games that just had a few (major) flaws only and would otherwise be amazing experiences.

I look forward to these "correction hacks". Even if they may not be "how the developer intended it to play like".

This version of ECCO uses the enhanced graphics and music from ECCO PC and ads the FMV cut scenes.

It also gets rid of the password system in favor of a save feature.

First Quest Remake in Zelda Classic was fucking amazing, I believe it added some actual puzzle elements to the dungeons, though it's been a little while since I played so I could be wrong.

My only nitpick with it is the shitty MIDIs used for the dungeons... especially the last one. They gave it an awful instrumental MIDI version of the final boss from Sonic Adventure 2... fucking why??

I can completely overlook those, I wish I could play this on a TV.

I tried this years ago. What I can remember of it was pretty good. Wasn't the overworld hugely expanded on too?

>Last boss has a MIDI version of Live and Learn
That's hilarious and also awful.

>> No.3740162

>>3740071

Not sure if I'd say expanded, but they made it look like a more natural landscape, like, having actual trees, instead of hundreds of Link sized bushes neatly arranged in rows and columns. There were actual bushes in the game so you could cut them for rupees, and I believe actual shops instead of just the caves, though the caves were there too, some of them had windows where the old men would peek out.

of all the bosses, it's only CE Bison, CE Sagat, and ST Balrog that are busted as shit
like, Vega hasn't

HSF2 is pretty much ST with edition select. The balance is miserable as a whole, but it provides a fairly wide set of viable characters (if mostly by sheer amount), balancing :^) that out.

It's better than the BGs, in that they don't fuck it up with new NPCs. It's basically IWD-in-BG2 but you can create a party in character creation with proper widescreen, restored shit, and other stuff.
