I found this thing in a used PAL PSone (Model SCPH-102) i bought. Pretty sure its a modchip, but it doesn't seem to play any of my Japanese imports or extra burnt copies of my games. Can any anon identify this (what chip etc) and if so, can you see something physically wrong with it?

disconnect the orange and green wires from the chip and splice them together

Alright, so it's a case of it being wrongly installed? Just opened the darn thing up and was surprised to see someone had tinkered with it. Thanks a bunch anyway!

Looks to be a cock up. I presume the console works fine with legit games?

Makes you wonder what was going through the modder's head to wire it up that way. It's not a method I've ever seen before and there seems to be no documentation online supporting it.

Yes, the console works fine and proper with legit PAL copies. Really took me by surprise as the last owner seemed to be oblivious to the chips existence, at least he didn't mention anything about one. The problem was exactly that I couldn't find any documentation for this. Glad this board at least had knowledgeable people ready to help though!
