What were some games that felt enormous even though they really weren't?

Pic related for me.

Some strange that this game felt so good the first time but upon replaying it this year it came out as mostly stupid garbage and a massive downgrade after the first one. The hubworlds, swimming ability and final boss are the only things of value in this.

If you think Spyro 2 is that bad then don't even play 3, you might have a stroke or something.

Replayed the whole original trilogy actually, 3 actually fixes some problems 2 had but then it brought a fat lot of others.

All three original Spyros are amazing.

If 2 had one more hub world it would be the undisputed GOAT

No spyro game even get to amazing level.

2 needs to remove shit to get better, not add.

banjo-kazooie used to feel huge but going back the entire worlds could be drawn on a napkin in about 5 minutes

Patently false. The amount of effort and artistically that went into supporting the gameplay is on a level you don't understand. Not too mention Spyro controlled better than almost any platformer.

The amount of collectibles and backtracking you have to do in order to get then make the game feel bigger than it actually is.

I can 100% speedrun the whole thing in 4 hours

Actraiser.

I guess it gives you a bigger sense of a real living world and whole picture when you actually shape the world and build the civilisation. That and seeing the different areas from the god perspective and as sidescroller made the world feel so... complete.

this is the most contrarian thing I've seen on this board

2 > 1 > 3 nerd

Lego Racers 2. The game has five various worlds and when I played it as a child the whole environment and all felt so big, as if the entire place was my own. It was one of the first games with 'free roam' that I played, and before GTA or Simpsons Hit and Run

Lego Island 2, although I'm still convinced that the world was enormous

I wish we had editing tools for Spyro
