Do people actually hold the N64 controller like that? Literally every single game I played on it always had a control scheme that made it so you're either holding the d-pad grip or the analog grip. The only time I can even remember having to switch between one or the other mid game is for things incredibly specific that don't happen often like using finishers in WCW vs NWO World Tour and that could just be accomplished with flicking your right thumb on the stick.
