I used to work for SCEE when I was younger, I was a QA tester and spent ages pointing out bugs that never got fixed. Sony even made the job easy for devs by having the entire worldwide QA network, plus all test info available on hand. We'd all chase down and repro bugs because some QA in Japan had found X bug etc. All that collaborative testing, and still you'd get blamed if things went live with bugs you'd spotted a million times.

Devs can be lazy bastards. That's becoming easier to see nowadays though, with more people doing alpha / beta testing online. So it's not as simple as shifting blame anymore.

Because you're reading a Mega Man 8 thread. The complaints its gets for voice acting, the board, and that stupid ball are absolutely deserved. And aside from the final battle and the board the game was a cakewalk.

The stages were worth checking out, though. Sword Man's stage had a lot going on. I thought Astro Man's wraparound labyrinth was interesting without overstaying its welcome. And though they were piss easy the shoot 'em up sections with Rush were fucking neat.

Reasons yet unstated why MM8 was a pile of turds.

- It was on the PS1 and PS1 games have all aged horribly. Every last one. Load times on a 2D game and sound quality that doesn't match what you're seeing on the screen at all.

- The music was very un-megaman with nothing memorable except for Electrical Communication and Brand New Way, neither of which were in the english version.

- A general feel that MM8 is a stripped-down MMX game, a hurrdurr goofy 4kids interpretation of how those games went. Classic is its own entity and is most at home when rocking out.

- It had Inafune taking a step back from production and it nearly killed the series, which is possibly what's been on Capcom of Japan's mind lately.

I really don't like that game.

Classic games are supposed to be the "vanilla" of the larger franchise. It abhors experimentation. MM8 was Capcom trying to make a big budget, flashy Classic game, possibly in the same way Sonic Adventure tried to bring Sonic into modern gaming. And look where that got them.

This. I tried playing Megaman 8 again a few weeks back. And I loved 7, so keep that in mind.
The level design is fucking awful. Every stage has a bunch of loading screens throughout it. Every stage has a gimmick to it which is normally a good thing but not when they're stupid shmup sections which nobody has ever liked in the games or JUMP JUMP SLIDE SLIDE bullshit.
The animation and sprite work is nice, but the art style is awful. As far as gameplay goes, it feels extremely slow compared to any other MM game. The bosses were all either easy as shit or cheap as fuck; no midle ground.
Also, the switch to single screws throughout the levels felt more like losing something than a change for the better. All it meant was you had to go through every stage several times to get all the screws because you wouldn't have all the weapons you need to get them all the first time, or the stupid fucking snowboard section required you to have future sight or a second attempt to get them.
At least it still had Roll.

>> No.372309

>The complaints its gets for voice acting, the board, and that stupid ball are absolutely deserved.

No they aren't. Cutscenes are skippable, the jet board segments aren't even that hard, and the mega ball can be used like a mid-air Rush Spring. You are retarded for thinking those are reason enough to claim the game is shit.

>> No.372432

The voice acting is everywhere. Robot Masters never stop talking. Unless you upgrade your charge, Mega Man even shouts "power shot" every couple of times you use it.

The board wasn't just wildly more difficult than the stages and bosses, the mechanics were broken. The board is huge but Mega Man's hitbox stays the same. You can hold right to increase the range of your jump but then you have to spend every other second sliding back to the left. That squeaky voice announces jumps long before you reach them, overlapping itself. It's the worst.

And while the Mega Ball had uses, especially that Wily stage boss, it's an extremely underwhelming weapon. Whether you're taking the time to line it up and kick it or just plopping it down on top of enemies, it's unwieldy.

These are valid, hideous flaws and without them Mega Man 8 would just be a mediocre game.

Also I don't see how that made the board segments hard at all. Even as a kid they were piss easy. MM8 is not hard at all.

Also every MM game has underwhelming and gimmicky weapons. Also why single that weapon out? 8 has alot of great weapons (Tornado Hole,Flash Bomb,Homing Missile)

You're wrong. I have never had any problems with your complaints whatsoever, and I strongly doubt you'd be able to make valid points beyond the crappy ones you've already made. If 8's mediocre, then the same goes for the previous 3.

The hit detection for the jet board segments was fine, try getting better reflexes. None of the voice acting bothers me, I have heard much worse. The crab can be beaten with the mega buster and the mega ball is an excellent speed running tool. You've clearly not invested enough time to understand the game fully, thus your opinion is invalid as far as I'm concerned. The only good thing was the intro in Rockman 8; that was golden master race of the god tier.
Recalling, this was the first classic mega i played and it was fun but thinking it well and after playing previous games, it was bad; the older games were more challenging and had better stages, MM8 is just an attempt of making mega looks cool with th graphics.
