I've seen tons of people call this the best action game on the gba, sometimes the best gba game ever, and now the best licensed game ever. Is it pure Treasure fanboyism? I played it and it wasn't really that good, the combat got repetitive pretty fast and the visuals were ugly as is typical of a lot of Treasure games. I guess it's good in all the homage it pays to Tezuka's works, but not THAT much as a game.
It makes me sad because Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure is also a 2D platformer beat 'em up based on a classic manga series, and it's better than OF in every way, but nobody ever mentions it, opting to praise OF as the 2nd coming of christ instead.

It's hardly repetitive because the constant upgrades change the game all the time.

>and the visuals were ugly as is typical of a lot of Treasure games

I dunno, I think visuals are pretty good, pic related.

You just seem to have a hateboner for Treasure/have something personal against "Treasure fanboys".

Dragon Ball AA is indeed pretty great though, but I also see it being mentioned fairly often on GBA threads. Both are good games.

People like Astro Boy because it's a great action game and is actually a pretty good licensed game, not because it's by treasure. Also, it's not 100% treasure, it was a collaboration with Sega's Hitmaker.

It was my first treasure game and possibly my favorite. Of their selection the only other games I like are gunstar heroes and sin and punishment.

Really? I hate treasure's art style, the art of gunstar heroes and mischief makers is terrible in my opinion. I love tezuka's style so luckily that's avoided here. Before playing this game I never had much interest in tezuka but this game single handedly got me into tezuka.

I love it a ton and I hate beat-em-ups. Omega factor is just a blast and the balance of beat-em-up and shump levels allows neither to get tiring.

What do you mean? I don't see people playing Ikaruga on their phones on the way home.

Also, how many shmups do they have? OK, Ikaruga and Radiant Silvergun have "puzzle" elements, but how is that a bad thing? You might not personally like it, but others do, big deal.

They don't have a lot of other shmups, Gradius V doesn't have any puzzle element as far as I remember, unless you can point me out an example.

And as >>3708210 said, the only "story" moment were like 10 seconds of cutscene on the second level, there could be more but I don't remember, probably because there wasn't really much of it. As for the length, I didn't think it was too long but even if it was, it's better it to be long that too short.

Still, you said Treasure games "lacked polish and play testing". Where is that? Point out examples, so far you only said that you personally don't enjoy puzzle elements, and that gradius V is "too long", but I fail to see lack of polish or play testing, the games work, and don't have any bugs.

I don't know what role they played in Ikaruga, but G.REV I think mostly handled backgrounds and graphics in Gradius V.

I have a sneaking suspicion they contributed some design expertise as well helping out relative shooter neophytes like Treasure (with their whole 2 shmups under their belt), but there's nothing to verify that.

My guess is that with Ikaruga it was also strictly graphical - G.REV (who is or was like 3 or 4 guys) basically were or are jobbers most of the time between cobbling a few yen together to make their own game. And their last was... Kokuga? Yikes; been a while.

It's sorta both fair and unfair at the same time to compare HAN's style to Tezuka's. On one hand both are going for a similar simple exaggerated look, on the other hand Tezuka is one of the most iconic artists ever as far as cartoony styles go. Still, as >>3707746 pointed out I think Shyna for example has a fantastic design.

I really liked the atmosphere of Omega Factor - it's been a long time since I last played it so I barely remember the story details, but I remember the experience feeling epic, surreal and equal parts melancholic and optimistic. Which is exactly what a lot of Tezuka manga is like.

I've only read the first 2 parts and I've not seen the any of the Rintaro OVAs yet; part 1 was kinda alright story-wise but worth reading for the inventive drawings & paneling alone and part 2 might be the most thought provoking writing I've seen from Tezuka so far. His other stuff can be clever in various ways, like using allegories to give people a fresh look at real-world issues (ex. robot president arc in Astro Boy, the Strongest Robot arc) but Phoenix v2 actually made me think about my general views of existence itself and that's fucking amazing for a shonen manga with Popeye inspired designs and silly comedy like this in it.

It also perfectly embodies the "melancholic but optimistic" feeling I got from Omega Factor.

Shitposter A: the Nintendildo. Has only played Mischief Makers and Wario World on the Wii e-shop and thinks they're the best games ever. Never leaves his comfort zone. Very nostalgic memories of Nintendo, and little else.

Shitposter B: the Segaspie. Thinks the Sega Mega Drive is the greatest gift to mankind. Worships the fuck out of Gunstar Heroes and Alien Soldier, despite being mediocre run 'n gun shooters, to put it politely. Thinks Ikaruga is the greatest shump of all time because IGN told him so. Will get laughed out of belt scroller threads for liking/praising Guardian Heroes.

Treasure Haters can be categorised into two types of shitposters:

Example A - the console fanboy jealous that his console didn't receive any great Treasure games and has to play them emulated either on his computer or non-retro systems.

Example B - the arcade elitist who thinks he's too good to play Treasure games and can't explain with facts why Treasure games are inferior to his favourite arcade games.

can someone explain the autism some people have against Treasure on this board?

I could understand if it happened with other small developers that people praised, if it was a general thing, I could understand it as it being some people just being contrarian and that's it, but why is this autism specifically condensed in Treasure?

You barely see people discussing Treasure anymore, the last time I saw people mentioning Treasure in this board was people posting that one pasta about "treasurefags divided in 2 categories" and the like.

What happened? what did I miss?

I can't even be angry at them, I just don't get it.
Why the persistence? It's obvious their shitposting is not welcome and deleted all the time, it's obvious they don't have arguments to present to form actual discussions. All they (or he) does is keep posting the same pasta over and over, only to get it deleted, then complain about the janny, and the cycle repeats.
It's sad.

I wonder why did they choose Treasure, of all developers or /vr/ subjects, as their one scapegoat.

Also, can you show me an example of said "treasure fanboys" saying all their games are perfect? Use the archive if you must, because I don't see anyone in this thread doing it.

One of the easiest ways for shitposters to get results is by going after something well-liked by most of the board. As for the persistence, never doubt the power of autism. To these posters, laughing at their own repetitive jokes and the responses to them feels like the best blowjob imaginable.

Can you give me actual examples? You insisting that treasure fans say this or that isn't proof.
All I'm seeing on this thread is people discussing treasure games in a civil way (without ever mentioning things like "best ever" or "perfect") until the anti-treasure brigade of 1 or 2 guys arrived and started throwing the stale pasta, then crying mods deleted them, and all that jazz.

They just make video games that range from average to unplayably bad, but /VR/ memebois shriek like howler monkeys about them and elevate them to a level of quality they don't deserve, so they can fuel their superiority complexes. Then they silence anyone who dares disagree with the shitposting hivemind. Basically, /r/truegaming leaked into /VR/ a long time ago and the cancer metastheicsed.

Which Treasure games are unplayably bad?

>but /VR/ memebois shriek like howler monkeys about them and elevate them to a level of quality they don't deserve

Any example of this? I haven't seen anyone treat Treasure like gods, a lot of people enjoy their games, but I don't see the supposed "overrating" that anti-treasure guys talk about. If you can point me out to a post that is like this, I'd be thankful.

>Then they silence anyone who dares disagree

Then why hasn't this post been deleted: >>3707210?

According to you, mods delete every post that talk about Treasure negatively, but I think this isn't the case.
The only posts that get deleted are the ones that are obvious shitposting, such as "treasure is shit!"
Maybe if the anti-treasure guys didn't force their hateboner so much, mods wouldn't mind, but I guess at this point they just consider it spam, and understandably so.

give proper arguments as to why you don't like Treasure, and your posts won't get deleted.
Ad-hominem like "treasurefags" aren't arguments, by the way.

It's been months since I started monitoring Treasure threads on /vr/, and so far not a single actual argument from the detractors, it's always just "treasurefags this", "treasurefags that".

I still don't think that's true at all, unless they can show me a /v/ thread where they treat Treasure games as "the best ever/perfect", I'll keep thinking there are WAY worse fanbases out there: Sonic, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Castlevania, you name it.

Why do they choose to center on hating Treasure? Just because IGN praised Ikaruga that one time 15 years ago?
I dunno, seems weird.

Original guy you're replying too.

HAN's style is just unappealing in my opinion. I like some designs like the generic enemy soldiers but the features are just too weird. I know its a wacky anime style but things like the eyes and the stick limbs are just not appealing. Just my opinion.

Mischief Makers is amazing. Some of the best movement mechanics in a 2d platformer post-Super Metroid.

It is really good and feels nice when it works. But I feel the N64 controller is not really well made for those 2D platforing commands. I dont knof if its because the D-pad is a bit stiff or what. Sometimes I have trouble getting out, what I want to do, which doesnt happen to me in other 2D-plattformers on other systems.

>> No.3717350

>>3717342

The N64's d-pad is just a SNES d-pad. The reason it's stiff is because you haven't used it enough (understandable since most N64 games didn't use it).
A brand-new SNES controller's d-pad also feel stiff.

I dont feel that way. The N64 D-pad sticks out more and the material is a bit different. maybe more enduring but the feel of using a SNES and a N64 d-pad is definitely not the same. I think something about going to diagonals on SNES just feels more natural/easy.

>> No.3717839

>>3717826
you know, you're right about the n64 d-pad sticking out more, however it compensates by having a sort of cavity surrounding it (as opposed to the SNES which is flat).
But it still works just fine for me, doesn't feel different to do diagonals than on SNES.
