I'm already aware of Game Center CX
http://www.sa-gccx.com/episodes
http://www.gamingcx.com/p/gccx-videos.html

But are there any other shows out there that involve retro gaming? Not ones that strictly revolve around reviewing either.

The only other one I know of is a weekly stream by a Something Awful goon named SmiteSA, called Arcade Pit. He basically recreated Nick Arcade (A cool show in it's own right https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Arcade)), but with other streamers as contestants.

As an example, here is his most viewed Arcade Pit (Slowbeef and Diabetus of Retsuprae vs TieTuesday and ProtoJon):

The amount of work that goes into this thing is staggering. It's the sort of thing I would expect on TechTV / G4 / Spike. All of the game challenges, quiz questions, drawing prompts, etc. are sent in by the community. If I had the upload speed, I'd definitely apply to play.

Two I really enjoy are chrontendo and game sack. Chrontendo is this guy's attempt to play and document every game realeased on the famicom in release order. His commentary is kinda dry but I genuinely enjoy it and his humor doesn't feel forced. Game sack is a typically game show but I like it since it feels like the two hosts are actually real knowledgeable and don't just repeat shit we've all heard a million times.

I'll have to check it out, especially that first one. I've thought about doing something similar with alphabetical order.

Arcade Pit is great. I just wish there was more variety in contestants.

Maybe you could put out an unofficial completion of Chrontendo, if it still isn't done yet. (I'm assuming it isn't done yet. It's still awesome and worth watching, even if he never finishes it.)

OK I just checked his blog and apparently he's still slooooowly churning them out.

He's pretty far into it, close to 1990 meaning he's covered about seven years of the system. He also has a chronturbo and chronsega series but those only have a handful of episodes. Either way it's a pretty cool series.

Seconding Game Sack, it scratches that ZDTV/Tech TV itch I've had for so long

I like Game Sack when they talk about systems.

They're absolute dogshit at talking about games, they basically drop a one-liner marketing blurb.

They don't know how to write jokes and much less how to deliver them. They do have some obscure games in their videos, so that's my one excuse to watch them. But they're pretty bad.

Yeah, I dislike them. But when they go into autistic detail about the systems, they generally make no cringeworthy wooden delivery jokes. I watch them for that.

And forthe odd game that looks interesting. Because sure as hell they didn't convince me to play it, the video did.

It's almost only about reviews but Retro Core is really good:

Use the catalog fucking idiot! There's an e-celeb thread already.

No I agree their "humor" is kinda cringy but I at least respect them as they cover games you really wouldn't expect a channel as viewed as theirs would. They're awkward people but I respect their knowledge on games.

Chrontendo though is really good. As I said the commentary is kinda dry but I appreciate, he's simple and to point. He knows most of the shit he's covering is garbage no one cares about and he spends as much time as he needs to. Sorry to sound like a shill but it probably is my personal favorite game show. It's a shame he never did more episode's of chronsega and chronturbo but whatever.
