What are some good casual or multiplayer Dreamcast games? I'm giving my 7 and 8 year old nephews my old Dreamcast for Christmas. I've had it for years, but I never used it since it was given to me with no cables, and I don't know much about it's library, but I've got the cables now, and I've started burning discs.

My current list is Star Wars Episode I: Racer, both Sonic Adventures, Hydro Thunder, Crazy Taxi, San Francisco Rush 2049, and Jet Set Radio.

They're not very smart kids, and they've never played anything other than phone games before so I think casual or multiplayer games would be best. Taking turns is never as much fun.

My ISP might also be massive fucking faggots right now, because after downloading Sonic my whole connection has gone to shit, and 90mb games are taking 10 minutes to download.

Maybe Penpen Tricelon, or Power Stone 1 & 2.

I quite liked Quake and Unreal Tournament on DC, but they might not be the sort of thing you're looking for.

There are a shitload of good racing games for the Dreamcast, but I'm not sure how many go beyond 2 Player. San Francisco Rush 2049, Metropolis Street Racer and F355 Challenge are all pretty good.

Virtua Tennis is a good party game as well.

Thanks I'll look at these. Do y'all know if it's possible to burn out of region discs to run on a Dreamcast without burning a boot disc? Also would Phantasy Star Online be worth checking out, and would it be possible to play it offline?

Nah, they're poor and the Dreamcast wouldn't go for much. They don't have their own phones or anything. My concern is that they don't take care of their stuff. The only reason I haven't given them anything before is because I don't trust them to take care of discs, but burnt discs are a good with to teach without losing anything of value.

This shit is supposed to be passed down. My uncle gave me his gameboy when I was 2. I kept dropping it and the batteries would go rolling across the floor. But I was transfixed by that thing. Then my dad got the NES with the huge stack of cartridges. I've never been the same since.

My cousin was showing me the GBA he picked up at a garage sale. It's beat the fuck up. It just came with some GBC Sabrina The Teenage Witch game. I let him borrow my copy of Pokemon Silver and soon I think I'm going to give him my EZ Flash IV and a SD card loaded with good games. Better that than having him grow up playing nothing but current gen crap.

Ooga Booga is a third person arena shooter with a hawaiian/island theme. Great party game. Check out Fur Fighters too for a similar game with furries.

Third Strike for a fighter.
Giga Wing 2 for co-op shooters.
Sonic Adventure 1/2 for going fast.
Next Tetris or Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo for puzzle goodness.
Hydro Thunder for racing.
Charge N' Blast for being so best.

I've had a Dreamcast for little over a year, I haven't touched it in months tho.
I picked up rayman 2 today, only game I've ever seen for it in the wild and it wasn't even 4 bucks so obviously I picked it up.
And I got this thought in my head that I had before but never fully fleshed out,
Is there really that much of a reason to own a Dreamcast?
Most of the famous and worthwhile games in its library have been ported and rereleased, and honestly a lot of the time the ports play and look a lot better than the originals, and most, not all, but most games that really are Dreamcast exclusive are pretty bad.
Honestly tho, every game for Dreamcast you'd want to play is on ps2, GameCube or pc

Literally doing just this in a week. My bros are huge fans of Mario Party so I'm hoping we'll at least enjoy the novelty of it being an unofficial Mario Party. That Emerald Coast board puts me to sleep every time though, staying far away.

>> No.3689818

>>3689783
Well if you're into shmups, DC still has a lot of exclusives that weren't ported to any other console.

There's also horror games like Carrier, D2, Blue Stinger, and Illbleed that are certainly worth playing (Carrier is the only one I would call "bad", but I still enjoyed parts of it).

There's some action games that are still exclusive, like Berserk (never played it, dunno if it's good), Frame Gride, Gundam Side Story 0079, and Maken X (this has a PS2 remake, and it plays differently, not for the better imo).

Arcade games? Dynamite Cop, Sega Marine Fishing (awesome with the fishing controller), Crazy Taxi 2 (this actually never had an arcade version, so it's a true exclusive for the DC).

Fighters? Tech Romancer, Project Justice, and DC still has the only home port of Virtua Fighter 3 (it was a rushed port, but still good).

>> No.3689826

>>3689783

>Honestly tho, every game for Dreamcast you'd want to play is on ps2, GameCube or pc

PC I might give you, what with recent Steam releases, but any Dreamcast game that was ported to those consoles was completely butchered. Acclaim's ports of Crazy Taxi are borderline unplayable, the timing on Space Channel 5 (PS2) got borked. Sonic Adventure 2 on GC and Shenmue 2 on Xbox were the only two decent ports that generation.

>> No.3689845

OP here, I ended up "testing" Phantasy Star for longer than I intended to, and I killed a dragon. It actually has some really good gameplay for an MMO. Are the servers still running or are there any private servers to connect to? Are the sequels good?

>> No.3689856

There's currently a general on this board about it. You can play Blue Burst on PC for free now, and DC servers are live as well, but far less populated.

>> No.3689891

>>3689863
I should also mention that even though I've got it working it only seems to run the disc if it's in the console before it's turned on, and it's been reading them properly about 80% of the time so if it doesn't read it the first time resetting a couple of times might work.

>have you tried burning at your discs lowest compatible speed?

This meme needs to die.
Burning speed only mattered in the 90s when you were still using shit burners and shit media.

It has been irrelevant for more than 10 years now. As long as you are not using 10 cent Chinese bulk ordered CDRs and as long as you don't burn at the maximum speeds, you'll be fine.

Fighting games and party games. Power Stone 1 is just 1 vs 1 but still is fun, while Power Stone 2 is crazy when playing with 4 players.
Get Marvel vs Capcom series(as any other vs Capcom), get some Street Fighter, Dead or Alive 2 and Soul Calibur(that is still pretty good). If you want the kids to have every playable characters from start in these games just download an iso with all savefiles.
Party? Chuchu Rocket for sure. Sonic Shuffle is mediocre as hell, but kids could enjoy it I guess.
Virtua Tennis get 2, but I doubt kids will like tennis. NBA 2k2 if they like basket
