I vote Life Force, simply because I'm biased by having that and not Gradius while growing up.

Did you not see OP's premise?

they're both made by Konami and are practically the same games. What is there to debate?

Gradius: checkpoint deaths, horizontal scrolling, 1 player at a time onry (everything annulled in V), game is longer
Salamander: faster, continue on death, vertical scrolling, fewer stages
Then there's this fucker, that equates to throwing your pc out the window

>> No.3687127

>>3687104
Salamander has 2P co-op and overhead scrolling stages, plus instant power-ups in most versions that aren't the FC/NES one and the JP Life Force.

Gradius is crazy good for being damn near a launch title (in North America).

You're right, I don't.

I've only ever played Salamander as part of the PS collection and as the original PCB. Are any of the other versions worth playing on their own merits?

No, Salamander for the MSX is the equivalent of taking a Popsicle and sticking it up your own asshole.

And if you're somehow talented and masochistic enough to actually beat the game, it decides to be a sore loser and tells you that the mission you were on was a failure anyway! In order to truly beat the game, you have to find a crystal hidden in once of the levels, but you'll never find it... unless you have Gradius 2 / Nemisis 2 in cartridge slot #2 while you're playing! Seriously, what other game makes you have ANOTHER game installed just to get the good ending?!

Thunder Cross is way too high but the rest is good enough

Salamander is thecoolest-looking cart in the series for Famicom / NES. Maybe the coolest cart in the entire Famicom library. Look at this awesome thing.
