ITT: LSD: Dream Simulator

What the actual fuck? /vr/ is this an actual game? Also post experiences and screencaps.

>> No.367823

Yeah, it's on Jap PSN I'm pretty sure.

>> No.367837

I played the rom. It's fun for a few hours but gets repetitive even though everything is randomly generated.

>> No.367847

Someone needs to make a english translation for it.

>> No.367861

I still have yet to play it. I did watch a 10 min Let's Play and it looked really good but didn't freak me out really. Which was why I was surprised to get a nightmare that same night where I was in the game teleporting every time a touched an object and feeling so slow and bogged down. One of the worst nightmares I've had in a long time.

Taking care of a cat

The cat I was taking care of returned to the room on the third floor.
Thereupon, someone caused the cat to become transparent.

It has a sequel, too. Though only in Japan.

All three are directed by the same person, so similarities aren't surprising.

>> No.368206

This. Someone stream please.

>> No.368216

It's interesting, but like someone said earlier, it gets repetitive. I went in expecting some sort of unique horror experience because people talked about how scary it was. It's just weird, and mildly creepy at times. The Gray Man might make you jump because he's startling, but that's about it.

Running around funky landscapes doing nothing gets boring after a while.

>> No.368234

I posted this same thing a while back, would you guys be interested in a series of LSD by a fellow /vr/tual boy? I can upload one of my old recordings for you guys to check out if you're interested.

Of course I'd be rerecording a whole new series with a new save though if any of you are interested.

>> No.368276

While it isn't the most intresting and gets repetitive after long stretches, it is still a genius game that, other than similar games worked on by Osamu Sato musically, it is unparalled.

>> No.368285

>It has a sequel, too. Though only in Japan.
>implying you can get it even in Japan

Chu-Ten is literally impossible to find. Literally. There isn't even an iso floating around on the internet. LSD and Eastern Mind are pretty rare to begin with, but Chu-Ten just flat out doesn't exist.

>> No.368289

exactly this. Interesting until you see the same reskinned village 50 times

>> No.368296

it's funny it turned out my experience with LSD is very similar to my experience with LSD. I don't really get too caught up in the environment so much as I get caught up in trying to map the logic of it. Figuring out what triggers change the outcome of the dream in terms of the Upper/Downer, Static/Dynamic score. Trying to fill out every point on that quadrant graph is really what occupied me the most.

This is a list of products from the official website of OSD (Osamu Sato's company)

Chu-Ten came out in 1995, same year as Eastern Mind.

Why was Eastern Mind for Windows and Chu-Ten for Apple? What kind of fucked up joke is that?

>> No.368524

The Japanese version of Eastern Mind (東脳) was released 1994.
So the sequel was released on year after.

>> No.368530

yeah, looking into it myself I figured that out. I was curious about the fact that Sony Music Entertainment was plastered all over it.

>> No.368539

Oh, whoops. I missed the part where it said "international."

I'm amazed that Eastern Mind was even translated to begin with.

>> No.368541

Can we contact this gentleman or perhaps his experience with the game has ascended his mind and body beyond our limited understanding of this universe.

Seriously though, this is the most interesting thing I've seen in a long while. Actual discovery seems like a thing of the past with the popularity of the internet and the way information travels now. I know there are things to discover still, but most games have been analyzed and documented to death because of it's risen popularity. This is gold.

>> No.368552

Well yeah, but it seemed weird that Sony Music would be the ones publishing a videogame.

>> No.368661

>I doubt he'd rip the .iso or whatever

The sad thing is, there's a good chance he wouldn't even know how if we asked him. And even if he did, he probably wouldn't want to waste bandwidth on a ~800 upload for a bunch of random mooks on the internet, unless we can convince him through the language barrier that the game MUST be uploaded so that it won't be lost forever.

>> No.368686

Yeah I wouldn't hang on to much of a hope in obtaining an official soundtrack since the game itself seems to have such a limited run. Not trying to be a killjoy but be prepared to pay top dollar if you do find one for sale, whoever owns it must know it's rare.

Maybe the artist himself has more information on all of this, and may indeed be compliant if he thought we were interested in his work.

>> No.368687

The soundtrack seems to be on NicoNico Douga.

Link here:

Or if you do have an account you can also watch it directly:
I've never played Eastern Mind, so I'm not sure if this is the correct soundtrack.

>> No.368709

I already found my way to a copy since i posted, but thanks. There's something oddly captivating about these sort of grail quest scenarios. I don't know why I feel such a strong compulsion to try and find things just because I know they're rare.

>> No.368723

For some reason, this really interest me.
I'm searching all over the Japanese part of the internet, yet there is almost no information about this game.
No footage, no discussions, no images.

>> No.368762

Well, technically games like this can in fact be lost when they aren't popular enough. I doubt even the most avid video game collectors know much at all about this game. Wouldn't it be a shame to have to add this to a list of other games that are lost? It would be like that list of lost films we'll never see, and only have partial plot details of.

As an adamant appreciator of Video Games I seriously don't think any game no matter how awful should be completely lost and left behind. Even bad games should be kept in record and be playable somehow even if they are bad, even just as an example. So that's why I find it exciting.

>> No.368775

I just emailed the guy who owns a copy of the game.

I'll probably never see a response. :(

>> No.368787

I may have been born too late to explore the new world, and born to early to explore space, but dammit I was born in just the right time to find rare video games!

>> No.368789

A lot of people who just learn about this game never find out there's an ending and levels to it
They just wander around aimlessly and think that's the whole point of the game

>> No.368796

Okay, there seems to be a rather elaborate description of Chu-Teng here:
At the very bottom.

It's for both Windows and Mac.

>> No.368805

I know you fill up that chart, but is there any indication on how to do it?
Do you win when it's all filled?

I remember on Youtube some guy was doing a LP of it and for a while he was learning new things, making maps, trying to figure it out. I think he just sort of... stopped, though.

>> No.368825

Does there exist a list of actual lost games? What about the film one? This is interesting as fuck.

>> No.368831

I'm not the anon you quoted, but
This is a neat read.

>> No.368832

So as far as I can tell, it's basically the same concept as Eastern Mind, except instead of worlds based on the five elements, it has three worlds based on the sun, moon, and stars.

>> No.368834

As far as I know you have to avoid being taken out of a dream and find a specific object to advance
I remember watching some kid do it on stream before
I was blown away by the cutscenes of it

>> No.368854

Well I was referencing this:

Which yeah, I know it's wikipedia so it's not true facts but I've explored a few films just trying to find out more about them and so far all of them just don't exist and nobody survives to explain the older ones. So they are gone forever. I would hate for games to go that way.

As for a game list, I don't know of one but it may be worth our time to compile one as a board sometime.

>> No.368906

Also, TV shows.

There are so many classic TV shows that have episodes missing because studios didn't think anyone in the future would care about them (HA)

Like Doctor Who. The first three (I think) doctors are missing entire serials.

>> No.368951

I'm pretty sure there's an "ending" cutscene that plays after 365 days, but that's all, and the chart even resets at that point iirc

Finding Eastern Mind was an incredibly difficult task alone. I eventually ended up using a private tracker torrent that had 1 seeder on it and downloaded the game over the course of a week.

Worth it, though. Fan-fuckin'-tastic.

This Chu-Teng game has piqued my interest though, I didn't know Eastern Mind heralded a sequel. I'll do some digging and see if I can find any information on it, Eastern Mind has been one of my favorite hidden treasures.

So, I took a quick look at this when the following intrigued me:

However, there is a rumour that once the grid has been filled, then a cutscene known as ENDING.EXE will play. As the grid has 309 spaces and the player only has 365 dreams, it is, in practice, impossible to unlock.

Now, after 365 days the chart resets, which would make it statistically impossible to achieve.
That said it is theoretically possible considering there is a 56 day margin of error for this to happen.

My question is is there such an ending in the game's code or is it just an unsubstantiated rumor?

"Sexual: The sexual textures seem to appear only after the evil ones, (although not always, it's possible to start a dream with this texture on) and if this were a man's dream, one could say that it was his freudian inner-beast showing itself. But it's not. Often, mixed in with the evil textures is an 'eyeball motif', and that actually carries into the sexual textures in many places. The entire ground is sometimes covered with eyeballs, and again, if this were a man's dream, those eyes could represent his inner-obsession with sexuality. However, it is assumed that this is a woman's dream, based on the rare booklet that goes with the game and on the dreaming person located inside the Bright Moon Cottage. That person is a woman, and this sexuality is an odd one - gruesome and pervasive. Perhaps she was raped or molested, and she is trying to hide that? Perhaps the evil textures were blocking that out? Maybe she is just simply perverse herself. Many of the textures view hesitant women looking out from the corner of their eyes, and they're certainly all very distorted and hidden.

Along with the sexual textures, there is also another odd texture that's part of the Sexual texture. This texture features many colorful cartoon-like faces, most noticeable in Happy Town, where in fact this texture may be the 'default' texture for Happy Town altogether. It should be noted that this particular set's textures may change 'style' depending on the location. For example, when it appears in Happy Town, the faces appear to be more design-like than actual faces - some barely even seeming to represent them. When it appears in Monument Park seems to be more feminine and human looking, done in a style similar to the LSD mascot, and when it appears on the walls at the Pit & Temple it appears a lot darker and creepier than the other two."

That is fucking horrifying.

I think I was just forced to commit suicide in the game.

Was playing on day 4 or 5 and found myself in that expansive grassy field with all the rivers and cliffs and was just walking along, and all of a sudden I heard a buzzing noise. I stopped walking and started looking around to see if I was near something making the noise, and all of a sudden my character started walking on his own.

The view tilted a bit and he was walking slightly askew, not quite straight but not quite strafing either, and he continued to do so until he fell off a cliff.

The buzzing got louder and louder until he fell off. The button to look behind me still worked and as best I could tell there wasn't anything pushing me.

I don't know if it was a glitch or what, but it was definitely a fucking nope moment. I was playing on PS3 so I can rule out the idea of it being an emulator fuckup

There's videos like that in the game. About 18 or so in total. They happen on occasion, just like the black screens with white text that will happen on occasion.

I have NO idea what triggers this, but after a certain point, three dots on the grid will turn green like in the pic provided. The green dots will blink a few times, and then all the full-motion video cutscenes will start. They will all play, back to back, without you being able to give any input. It will take maybe 10-15 minutes for them all to play.

Now, when this was happening to me I was practically shitting bricks. I've never heard of anyone else describing this and I had never seen this happen on any YouTube playthrough of the game. I have no idea how rare this is or what triggers it. I wasn't keeping track in my screenshots then as to what day certain things happened on, but it was somewhere between days 55 and 100. The next time you look at the chart, the green squares will be gone.

Not all of your commentary was informative, and this may just be personal preference, but I wouldn't mention not knowing what things are or why they're there as much, or having never seen things before - the viewer doesn't necessarily care about that (saying you've never seen something before once or twice is okay but it seemed like you said that about a lot of things)

>> No.395468

My only complaint is that it's gonna be a bitch to manage the two accounts on the Vita, what with the "one account per card" dilemma

If your hacked psp can play ps1 games then this shouldn't be any different

it doesn't use any analog control, it's just dpad and some buttons and L/R

Yup. Put "LSD PSXPSP" into google, and the first dozen results are a download of some sort.

Apparently Chu-teng translates to Midheaven, so we should probably start calling it that.

Why? Neither the game nor the title ever got an english translation, so it'd be more correct and easier to call it Chu-Teng.

I think it's an urban legend.

I mean, there is no game for which roms and rips haven't been made.

If someone actually had this, they'd surely want to show off that they had it.

Hell, if it were published by Sony Music Entertainment Japan as the photos suggest, there would be copyright info available
