In this thread, you take a screenshot of a game and anon tries to guess what game it was. Bonus points if you guess what platform it was played on.

Oh man, I could have sworn a few years ago I read on some forum that the game authors would still let you register the game if you emailed them. I remember thinking that if I could ever get Sheepshaver to work I might try that. That was a while ago though.

I loved the demo back in the day; I still remember that one party I had with a fucking ridiculous Hash-shashin character that I got to a really high level by fighting river spirits.

>> No.371049

>>371036

Yes, very similar.

If you ever played Realmz, it's just like it in a lot of respects.

Man, nostalgia. Who says old macs didn't have excellent games?

You have a party. You have to have 1 Prince (which is you), and 1 Djin (spellcaster and plot device. Bound to your family, see?). And then 4 IIRC of the other classes. All very Arabain feeling as well. Had a mechanic for food and water, you had an animal companion, you got spells for your various casters, and everyone could learn Meditations.

No healer classes, see? Everyone heals themselves. But the classes with more Prana tend to get stronger effects. Said meditations are either obtained through favours to the various teachers, or by donating often. The mechanic is basically opaque, but it basically involves donating fairly regularly. 10% every time, so rich or poor characters both get a benefit.

Really nice setting and world. If you liked Avernum, Geneforge, or Exile, you'll like this.

Also, Realmz. Old game, feels very ADnD in certain respects, but another old classic in the same vein.

>> No.371051

>>371043

Ah, with the stupidly high number of attacks? I really liked the Djin and Sufi classes. All sorts of cool powers.

>> No.371058

>>371036
It's different but comparable. There are a lot of cool unique things about it, like the importance of water (you pay a premium for lighter items that allow you to carry more supplies, and it's worth it) and the travel mechanics with a day/night system that affect food and water usage. The lore and setting are also great.

Some aspects are a little basic though, and I always preferred Exile's combat with all those haste and fireball spells.

>> No.371064

>>371049

Sounds excellent, I especially like the concept of meditations. I'll give it a go!

I've heard there's some pretty good Mac OS9 emulators though. Sheepsaver, or something like that. Never found out much about it though.

I didn't really dig Realmz that much, though in retrospect there were some pretty cool things about it. It always just seemed a little incomplete to me. Maybe if I'd had more D&D experience I would have appreciated it more.

>> No.371283

>>371125

It was more or less my very first RPG experience.

I agree that it was a bit clumsy in certain respects. Encounters were a bit trial and error in places. Really liked the combat system, and the sheer range of visuals, as well as all the races and classes. Spell system was great as well.

Yeah, that was the main selling point of that class and why I always ran one. I happened to roll insanely good stats with this guy and he just dominated everything.

I didn't like how stat gain upon gaining levels was random though. Mostly I just ignored it and relied on the law of averages to keep things reasonable, but I got screwed over with a couple characters. I also save-scummed a couple times to give myself a leg up with that stuff -- not one of my proudest moments.

>> No.372637

>>372115

Yeah, I remember that. Bit of a shame, it was otherwise a pretty stable system. Other than the 'you don't get XP unless you land the killing blow'. Although I suppose that made it kinda easy to focus XP on those that needed it most.
