That your system anon? Is that a PAL or a NTSC-J Mega Drive?

I live in a PAL region and generally fucking hate 50Hz/our shitty EU ports. I don't want to mod my system really, so I'm wondering if it's worth bothering with Mega Drive collecting or not.

It's complementary.

Gameboy is an extension of 8-bit era, but SNES can do more impressive/advanced games that the GB couldn't, Wild Arms or Yoshi's Island for example.

Is there an actual reason to use a SGB over a Game Boy Player? Seems like just an inferior product, but maybe I'm just missing something.

>>3670943
You guessed it, OP. In 1994, Nintendo realized SNES had virtually no good games for it. So they released Super GameBoy and that was how they won the console war.

Another fun fact: every SNES game is actually a GB game with Super Game Boy attached to it. So if you have Super Mario Land for GB, don't buy Super Mario World for SNES. It's actually the same game. This trick saved me lots of money.

gameboy player has arguably worse scaling, worse color palettes for non color gameboy games, and input lag that seems to be built-into it. Not to mention the gamecube controller has the worst dpad of all nintendo controllers ever made. That's not to say the super gameboy doesn't have its cons though.

>> No.3671529

do you guys play on your super gameboy?
i like to play contra and castlevania 2 also like to use brown color themes, they feel good.

but recently have been playing around with the colors scheme, is there any place with password and color scheme to try on?

The GB, and by extension GBC, has a much larger library of decent to good games than the SNES. That being said, it has a much smaller list of GREAT games across most genres than the SNES does.

Depends on the games you're looking for. A few places were SNES is indisputably stronger:

>what are shitty genres

There are a few exceptions, but for a most part there is a reason why there is a 'game 19xx' on the box. With every version they game gets better.

I'd say the other genres are far more superios as well, there are many better rpg's for snes as well as plattformers, railgunshooters, adventure games, etc...

If I would have to choose I'd say the best genre that is for the GameBoy would be puzzle games, it was made for sitting on the toilet and finishing a puzzle (they invented shitty apps :^)

GB had some decent platformers (Warioland games, anyone?) and some good RPGs like DQM and the first three Saga games. It also had some great Zelda titles, a few good Kirby games, and of course, Pokémon.

The SNES' list of good games definitely contains a larger number of titles that are better than anything the GB has to offer in the same genres than can be said of the opposite way around, but there are some absolutely unmatched GB games out there. Generalizing it as a shitty console with shitty games is just wrong.

I fully understand your train of thought, I agree in every way what you mean. But the other dude meant that 'sport' fighting games' and of course 'racing games' were what made the snes, and I can fully say that I hate this anon for this statement, as I see the Snes weak in these genres. Your suggestions for good gb titles are awesome, as I must say that the gb suprised me in so many ways that not fucking clickbait apps-games can do nowadays. It was just fucking awesome for its time, i just don't like comparing it to the home-systems of that time, there was a just too big difference.

I'll agree with you on most of that. Those are mostly weak genres for the SNES, but there were a few good fighters on it. Where it really shone was platformers and RPGs, though. I'd argue that it has a wider array of 'best in genre' games across most genres than almost any retro console.

GB games were different because they tended to have shorter play intervals due to the portable nature of the console. That led to a lot of fun games that we would never have seen on home consoles, but ultimately didn't have the same AAA attention given to their development as console titles did. There was also a lot of licensed shovelware.

I'd say the ratio of good games to shitty ones is much lower in the GB library compared to SNES, but the sheer size of the library means there are tons of good games to play.

There's nothing wrong with the 32X, aside from being released a couple years too late. It's honestly probably the best cartridge-based home console as far as specs go. A shame the library is so small, it had the potential for some amazing games.
