Hardly call it flawless, the way it penalizes failure and sends you back can be very frustrating, bosses can basically one hit kill you. Would have honestly preferred a traditional lives system

But yeah it is a great game, but not flawless.

But there IS a flaw anon
It's not Wario land 3

Then it would've just been like any other platformer.

What makes WL2/WL3 special is how Wario is immortal.

Here's a flaw:

That one rolling-based level in the ruins. You know the one.

It's not flawless. For all the great tunes, funny enemies and branching levels it has, it still has way too many Green Bandits. People who 100%-ed it know what I mean. Maybe it was just the limited cartridge space cause it had to be playable on an original Gameboy compared to its sequel but after so many different bosses, the final boss felt like a disappointment. Also, the final level, even if it was a neat idea to make it a real time attack by default, was incredibly frustrating. I don't mind most of the challenge in this game but god they went overboard with that one.

WL4 was a downgrade coming off the stellar WL2 and WL3.

Now I'm curious. Which ruins level are you talking about? I don't remember anything special about them.

This. It felt more linear than WL3 and it's weird that they had to drop the immortality for hearts health which doesn't make sense. Even Wario Land 1 at the very least made sense with its mario like system because it was a direct sequel to Super Mario Land 2. So why the (several) hearts?

I didn't like the audio and video either from WL4 cause it just feels so ... off compared to the first WL games. Maybe it's because it used some kinda MIDI system for the music? I also think the level design from WL4 felt less interesting and more boring while WL2 and WL3 actually had some neat ideas (like the labyrinth like level in WL2 around the end or the way most WL3 levels got several paths to take when you found key treasures).

Wario Land 4 is a great platformer, but it is not a great Wario Land game. It's quirky and weird and neat, but the aesthetics take a heavy blow because of their overly trippy nature. Anyway, it's cool.

Actually it's incredibly tedious.

Seems like a Wario game to me. Just less conventional, which I love. It doesn't make all his previous abilities disappear for no real reason, it still had the same focus on collecting money, with hidden caches only for keen and intuitive players, it's still non linear but in a less conventional way (you can tackle the worlds in any order, swapping between levels or replaying levels). It just drops all pretense for the levels flowing natirally into each other but that allows more unique and distinct levels. The health system is the only big departure and you just say they took it back from the first one.

Oh and the frog countdown bombs, that's a huge departure but arguable just the bonus stage of 2 implemented in all levels.

Seems to be the one, but what about it? It's a regular level like any other.
