What retro games would you consider your favorite for their atmosphere?

Pic related. I loved KF's dark, muddy visuals. The atmosphere created a persistent sense of impending danger. Of course, given the number of lava pits, bottomless drop-offs and pitch-black chasms everywhere, the danger was very much real.

You would prob like Echo Night OP, it's a first person adventure game also by From Soft, even runs in the same engine as KF.

tomb raider 1 & 2. personally I feel the playstation versions add more to the atmosphere due to the hardware limitations.

Just beat KF op, I agree. The first person perspective felt like a legit adventure. So did not knowing what any of the magic or items did until you experimented with them or found a fortune teller. At first I thought the game was super hard, but honestly the second half of the game really isn't challenging at all.

Yeah once you can stock up on gold potions the game's combat becomes a lot easier. For me a lot of the difficulty was in figuring out where to go/what to do without using a walkthrough.

>Souls games are a hit
>people in the west become aware of King's Field
>lots of people actually like it now
>tfw not guilty anymore

>Feeling shame for playing a game unknown to normies.
>Feeling sad about being incongruent with mass culture's idea of a "gamer".
>Feeling relieved when your game series becomes popular and approved by normies.

Pathetic.
