dragon force 1 and 2 are awesome strategy games. I think even playing it will give anyone a sense of awe at the action on screen, but the best saturn game? There's so many great games it's hard to find a best one.

But I might put money on panzer dragoon zwei.

>> No.3661001

Hard to say any given game is the absolute best (for me, that would be Panzer Dragoon Saga, which undoubtedly a lot of anons will disagree with).

Dragon Force is a very well regarded game, but your enjoyment of it will probably depend on how much you like the genre. I tried it for the first time this year and found to my disappointment that I didn't like. It's too slow and complicated for my tastes, which is a shame because I could still clearly see the appeal in the game. The lore, the variety of kingdoms and generals you can control, the battle sequences, there's a lot to love in this, but it hinges on wether or not you connect with the basic gameplay mechanics underlying it all.

>> No.3661020

It looks like a mix of grand strategy and JRPG to me. Very interesting combination but I can see how it might come off as a bit complicated seeing how the aesthetics are more common for far simpler games.

What did he mean by this? The Saturn library is extremely awful with most games being some experimental half assed 2D - 3D mix both in aesthetics and gameplay. It's exactly the kind of half assed shit you would expect in the console generation right between 2D and 3D.

Like almost all ports on it were inferior versions too.

The Saturn is a curiosity. It's not a good console in any shape or form.

I think you meant to talk about the N64 there. The Saturn has tons of great, satisfying titles. If you don't know Japanese then you won't get the best experience out of it, but with some knowledge of Japanese you'll be able to enjoy the majority of the great experiences the console has to offer.

I actually had a phase where I was fascinated by the Saturn and played a shitload of games on it. I know exactly what I'm talking about.

The saturn had some godawful platformers, zelda clones, the standard pallet of tons of shmups and fighting game and other arcade ports no one gives a fuck about and games that are objectively better on the PS1.

Dragon Force and Panzer Dragoon are like the two truly unique quality games on Saturn. Be glad you have that. Even if you know japanese there is barely anything beyond SRPGs worth playing.

That's not what I said. Because those platformers and zelda clones were beyond mediocre. Because arcade ports are worth shit. Even the JRPGs were mediocre most of the time. The PS1 blew the Saturn in every genre out of the water. Like why did they even bother with the survival horror genre or awful TPS like burning rangers.

I already think the dreamcast library is mediocre but the saturn is like the same only much much worse. It barely has any defining games. If you think of the saturn you think of dragon force and panzer dragoon.

Which is easily proven false.

I liked great games on Playstation and Saturn (N64 too). To discount a whole system with lies like having inferior ports is just bait. There are lots of great games on the Saturn. Also the multiplayer mode of Saturn bomberman can go up to 8 and 10 players depending on the field. I also had fun with its co-op campaign.

See Capcom fighting games such as X-Men VS.Street Fighter or Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter, where the Saturn home ports allowed for tag matches from both players with whatever characters they choose, whereas other home ports on the Playstation only allowed tagging if both players agreed to use the same two characters. For shooting games, there can be more enemies or bullets onscreen, like the Dodonpachi games the PS version both players chooses the same ship, while SS allowes both players to choose whichever one they want to play as. Metal Slug does not need to load mid-stage. I feel the saturn versions of Silhouette Mirage and Thunderforce 5 play better on Saturn over their PS counterparts. I do not feel the ports on the system were inferior, some even matched the arcade sharing similar hardware as the ST-V like Die Hard Arcade and Soukyugurentai. Typically with a lot of 2D games, I prefer the Saturn port.

I am in complete agreement with the anon that said there are so many great games [on the system] it is hard to find the best one. To which the reply was to shoot down the whole library which is a pretty piss poor negative reponse. We all know the saying about assholes and opinions, just poiting out yours is full of shit.

I'm convinced you are the troll now since the only point you keep bringen up is that I'm the troll because I hurt your feelings. Forever we discussed consoles by examining their exclusives but suddenly it's alright to keep bringing them up when the library is completely pathetic. That's why segafags will always be pathetic cretins. You will always put games on a pedestal that will be mediocre to bad for any other fanbase that played superior consoles.

And the pathetic thing is you probably don't even play this stuff, you may have played it once and then you developed the hipster affinity: "man would my taste look refined if I liked this game".

I feel like it's mostly a step backwards - the continuity makes no sense, generals seem RIDICULOUSLY tough where even if they're completely alone, they'll probably take down 100 of your troops and force you to finish them in a duel, the music is a complete downgrade... about the only thing I like is being able to field 2 different unit types instead of 1.

The entire game except for the last part looks the fucking same. There is no variety to the gameplay, you do the same shit the entire game except for the last 30 minutes.

Super short, if it was above 2 hours I wouldn't even have finished it. Poor replayability, I don't even know why they let you select the character, the guy and the chick play the same or at least there aren't really enough differences that it matters.
