Crimson Echoes;

At the time of the cancellation, the game was "around 98% complete"; it allegedly featured 23 story chapters adding up to roughly 35 hours of gameplay and ten alternate endings.

Flames of Eternity is a continuation of the original project and adds many new features. Its also 100% complete.

I knew crimson echoes would eventually come out in some form or other.

I haven't played it, but I did follow its development somewhat on the compendium. for those of you who hate fan games, this one might be different. this was a collaborative project into which they poured lots of hours and effort. it's worth a try imo.

I don't have anything against fangames/hacks but uses so many assets from the original it barely looks like a sequel at all. Barely above a script hack, really, Doesn't compare at all to Mario, Sonic and Mega Man fangames for instance. For something that's been in development so long I was expecting more.

Chrono isn't even a franchise, Kato just came back it it in Cross because he wanted to tell a different story but use Trigger as a frame of reference to contrast.

Unfortunately he didn't anticipate the fans being autists that wanted the same game with the same characters doing the exact same thing but with the number 2 on the end.

chrono cross would've been better as a separate game. its whole character and approach are completely different. the connections to CT feel shoehorned in imo, and they completely subvert what you accomplished in CT. it's like, you save the world, then fuck you, now it's even worse.

I wouldn't call the fans autists, at least no more than any other fanbase. and I don't think crimson echoes/flames of eternity or any other CT sequel has to be a complete rehash. you could make a similar game while still going in new directions. kinda like how Majoras Mask is similar to Ocarina of Time while still being very much its own game.

It's funny, that's pretty much what this romhack is - it's the same shit again with a few shitty custom sprites apparently made by a blind person. RPG fans are the biggest autists out there, the amount of totally necessary re-translations on the internet is enough of a testament to that. Trigger's a great fucking game but goddamn, I wouldn't trust its 'fans' with anything. Some things are better left buried.

The game adds alot of modern features to the retro chrono trigger like minigames and more. It is very well made and definitely worth a play.

Can't add my thoughts since I have no interest in playing what will no doubt be a glorified fanfic. The only useful ROM hacks are bug fixes, retranslations and graphics updates.
