It was the first Star Wars game I played. The Hoth and Skyhook battles were amazing, I really like how this game set the precedent that all star wars games that allow you to operate a ship has a Hoth level. The IG-88 and sewer squid battles terrified me when I was younger. Fuck the Mos Eisley level.

>> No.3653937

I used to play through the train and the Skyhook battle pretty much every day as a kid.

I set my tv to the calibration settings the game recommended and the canyon level had inside parts that were pitch black. Somehow I still managed to get through it using the blaster to see the distance to the walls.

Had lots of fun with it.
Awesome to play to a John Williams score.
Space battles were like I'm right in the movies.
Willem scream, yes.
Kirk Douchelwhacker or whatever his name is was a cool character.
I guess he's not canon, now.

>first person OR third person perspective shooter levels

>planet based aerial vehicle combat levels

>space based vehicle levels with 360 degree field

>swoop bike racing level set all precedent for another great star wars game: episode 1 racer

>had as many planets/locations as the infamous star wars galaxies MMO did at release, as a fucking n64 game.

>the 'cheat codes' let you control and play with all sorts of different enemy characters and vehicles for more post-game content, the feeling of playing as a wampa and murdering storm troopers was crazy as a kid.

Aside from Mario 64 this was my most played single-player N64 game. Great level design, great controls, fun variety of gameplay mechanics, and all wrapped in a decent Star Wars story.

The Skyhook battle as an x-wing kept many of my childhood afternoons busy.

Keep the buttons held and hold Analog-stick Right halfway until the same sound is heard. Keep the buttons held and hold Analog-stick Left halfway until the same sound is heard. Keep the buttons held and hold Analog-stick Right halfway until the same sound is heard. Keep the buttons held and hold Analog-stick Left halfway until the same sound is heard. Yeah, plenty of people used their chins for this, dude.

Actually SotE was an experiment to see if Star Wars was still a viable money-making franchise. We probably have this game to thank for the prequels being made.

Beat it on a rental not long after release, then made a point of buying it a few years later after reading the novel. Rendar is infinitely more likable in the game. For some reason the author decided to make him an unrepentant asshole. Actually the author made everyone that wasn't Vader and Luke into assholes.

Game gives Rendar a much nicer personality, story and send-off. Outrider also looks much cooler as the book more or less describes it looking like Padme's yacht with a mirror finish.
