3638779 No.3638779 [Reply] [Original]

I recently spent 100-200 on a refurbished game gear with replaced capicaters and a LED back light, 22 games, the game gear bag, And the game gear AC plug. I was wondering what are some of the underrated gems are for the game gear as a whole.

I didn't spend 200 on just a game gear you urethra, I spent 200 on a fixed up refurbished game gear, 22 games, the game gear bag, and the plug. And even then it was probably around 150 as I bought other non related shit.

Sorry to hear that. I hope they find a cure some day.
There are no underrated games for the console. The library is mostly SMS ports that are better if not as good as the originals. The handful of exclusives are mostly very good and everyone knows that. Except some fool who bought one without knowing what he was getting or how much he should pay.

Ax Battler, and GG shinobi 1 and 2 are good. Everything else is a master system port. Which are obviously better on master system.

not always

SMS has bigger screen area, but the GG has a ridiculously bigger color palette (4096 colors, more than the Genesis), which some games take advantage of.
and a lot of GG games are entirely different to the SMS version (occasionally for no reason)

have fun looking at that tiny screen and constantly recharging batteries just to play Master System quality games. this wouldn't even be worth the money if you were an alien from another galaxy and had never touched one.

so here's what you do, go grab the biggest fucking knife in your kitchen and find the person who has your money. carve that bird up, toss him in the oven and invite family over

This argument again, if you played the games instead of just parroting your favourite YouTube reviewer then you'd find that often when games are on both systems they may still be very different on GG vs SMS.

Streets of Rage SMS
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHby7-Kah7w
Streets of Rage GG
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGwChG7GY0o

Streets of Rage II SMS
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWThYuHTg4k
Streets of Rage II GG
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGwChG7GY0o

Batman Returns SMS
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bjiENrHYxQ
Batman Returns GG
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vob7jybaD4

See it's not just a question of higher resolution on SMS vs more colours on GG, all these examples have different art from one another and the SoR games have different levels entirely between the 8-bit console & handheld versions.

A game gear with new caps is worth at least $60 dude. I sold one for $60 recently and I could have sold it for more if it didn't have a dead pixel. I also just sold a recapped Game Gear with an LED backlight and new glass for $100 a few weeks ago and I'm probably going to be selling another soon.

A working game gear that doesn't have bad caps is generally worth about $30 but there's no knowing when the caps might go bad on it. If those caps die then you're going to have to pay someone to replace them anyway or do it yourself.

Of the games I own, these are my favorites:

Sonic Chaos
Sonic Triple Trouble
Halley Wars
Shinobi GG
Golden Axe: Axe Battler
Michey Mouse in Land of Illusion
Super Columns
Mortal Kombat
The Lion King
Prince of Persia

This is by no means an exhaustive list because I don't have a very big collection right now, but these are the games I enjoy playing the most. The Sonic games and Super Columns are super easy to find and will give you a good bang for your buck.

>>3643343
Yeah, I do the modding / repairs myself and I sell them on eBay. At some point I'd like to see what I could trade one for at a swap-meet too, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

I also want to try selling a McWill screen GG although there's considerably more overhead there. Just the kit costs $90 and there's a lot more labor involved than an LED mod. I've done one for myself already, but I think I'd have to charge about $300 if I was going to sell one. $250 would be rock-bottom but that wouldn't leave me a very good profit margin for the amount of time and work that goes into it.

Pic related is my personal GG with a McWill screen.

>> No.3643719

Go for Tails' Adventure and Shinobi II.

>>3643552
My only gripe with the McWill mod is that it breaks compatibility with the TV tuner. I'd like to have a decent screen on my system and be able to display random low-res composite shit on it, so I'm not jumping on board yet. But gosh, I've been spoiled by smartphone screens and going back to a GG LCD is hard.

*facepalm* A refurbished game gear has a very small amount of original parts. All the capicaters are switched out to make the visuals and sound stay good for a lot longer of a time. The LED screen also makes it so the battery lasts much longer. 95$ for that, then bought a lot of games, an adapter, and a bag for it. All in all it actually costed around 165.
