PS1 had both really good games, and then just awful games. There wasn't much of a middle ground.

That's the thing, "sega is doomed" was never a thing. People were upset about 32X and Saturn (in the west), yes, but nobody really expected Sega to close doors and release Sonic on the Gamecube.

I'm convinced the more people say "nintendo is doomed", the more luck they're giving to them.

Nintendo is up against 3 huge gaming companies, and all they got to show is a console with, what it looks like, less hardware than the Wii U? Now if they made some more newer shit and actually had some decent ideas they would be fine.

>people always talk about Crash and Spyro
>nobody talks about the real flagship playstation platformer

Did Sony kill the developers of Jumping Flash too soon? Jumping Flash 2 came out in 1996, at that time not that many people had jumped to 5th gen yet. Crash 2, Spyro, Crash 3 and others were released in later years were 5th gen was already stablished (1997, 98, etc), but by then, no more JF games came out other than the Japan-only Robbit Mon Dieu, which was a half-assed not-Jumping Flash 3 made by only a fraction of the original dev team, probably mixed with some other b-team from SCEJ.

I can only dream about a real Jumping Flash 3 released in the late 90s when the PS1 development knowledge was on its peak.

I didn't really like Spyro games for some reason.

Crash Bandicoot was the shit though. I remember as a kid I was stuck on the first game, I believe it was the red gem in the ice level. This was in the early day's of the Internet and I was so young I'm pretty sure my parents didn't allow me on the computer, so what I ended up doing was calling my local grocery store, finding an employee who was willing to see if they were selling the guide book for Crash Bandicoot, and once the person found it I asked her to open it up and find out how to get the red gem. She did it. She scrolled through the magazine and then told me how. I was all elated on the phone, "Thank you so much! I've been stuck on it for days!"

Ah man, that always makes me smile when I remember the grocery store employee who went above and beyond for me as a kid.
