Then, I had an aunt who worked at Toys R Us. They had an event and I got two official ones.

Ironically enough, that's the only way in Gen 1/2 to be certain that it's illegal. They have to have the OT they were distributed under or they're obvious hacks.

>> No.3638353

If you get a cloned Mew from a nintendo event, the Ot will still be Nintendo, right? But it'd still be a hack.

>> No.3638362

>A hack
Bad way of putting it. In modern Pokemon terminology, there's a sliding scale of Legit-Legal-Illegal. A Legit Mew would be one obtained from a Nintendo event. A Legal Mew would be one cloned from or genned as one from a Nintendo event. An Illegal Mew would be one caught ingame.

But the OT would have to be one that it was distributed with. I think "YOSHIRA" and "YOSHIRB" are the most believable. Of course, for the purposes of just playing ingame, legality doesn't start getting checked ingame until Gen III.

>> No.3638373

>>3638365
I believe Gen III is supposed to have a failsafe where a wild Mew or Deoxys won't obey you if it isn't caught in the right place/way, but that's just hearsay. As far as trading and battling go, I think the legality checks there were added in Gen VI.

So if you were to try transferring a Mew glitch Mew from Yellow VC to Sun, it might not work because the OT is wrong.

>>3638370
That might work? Gen I games don't store a lot of encounter data, and the ID number is random.
But of course, for the sake of playing in Gens I/II, it's just fine to use a glitched Mew anyways. I was just saying that having it with your OT makes it almost certainly non-legit.

I had a Mew from a promotion. The original trainer was Nintendo. I don't know if other events had different OTs, but I doubt it.

Here's all the info I can recall (It was back in 98ish):
Every kid got a scratch card. Not all cards were winners. My aunt got me two winners.
You traded a Pokemon with a store employee. I think you may have had so many days to do it because I didn't get my Mews that day.

OT was Nintendo, but it was just aToys R Us employee to do the actual trade.

I may be forgetting some stuff. It was like twenty years ago and not a significant life event.

That's not "taking care of your stuff," that's high-grade autism. I guess it's my mistake assuming you're capable of knowing the difference.

Calling people nostalfags on /vr/ is like going to /r9k/ and call them virgins, or going to /lbtg/ and call them faggots.
Yeah, we know, it's why we're here.

And again, I doubt you had a normal childhood if you are shitposting here.

>Mew gave birth

I do wonder this. They claim that nobody has ever seen a Pokemon lay an egg and that the idea of eggs is a marvelous discovery. Now, are they telling the truth, or are they just trying to avoid the S-E-X word in front of ten year olds?

>> No.3647636

>>3647616
Considering that they're not literally eggs and "evolve" into Pokemon after a while, there are four explanations.

1: Pokemon were considered to give birth instead of laying eggs and laying eggs is a retcon
2: "Laid an egg" and "Gave birth" are synonymous when it comes to Pokemon due to the nature of eggs.
3: Certain Pokemon give birth instead of laying eggs.
4: Mewtwo was created in a test tube, and his fetus was implanted into Mew until he was born, which was an abnormal but effective way of growing him.
