Pic very related. It's a golf game that turns into an action beatemup side scroller after you hit your golf ball.

you hit your golf ball then run to it while fighting ninjas, mud slinging gophers, and other things. if your ball lands in water you also fight sharks, in sand it's snakes. once you get to the green you fight a dragon by throwing shurikens at it

I think I'm about to go download it. Some of you cats have no idea what you're missing.

Next week, we make SHOGUN BASKETBALL to be followed by SAMURAI CURLING.

My memory might just be getting worse with age, but I'm damn near certain that back when I was a kid and had a Lynx, Atari announced they were going to put Ninja Golf on it but never did. I'm pretty sure I read it in EGM.

I would have loved to have played it

I've been meaning to train up and shit all over that dudes score. The game I submitted I died before the last boss so there's an easy 7000 points right there. All I need to do is a bit of point farming earlier in the game and beat the last dragon and I'll be able to get back that number one spot. I want to get a European style 7800 controller for my next run through. It only takes about 25 minutes to beat the game but those 7800 controllers wreck your fucking hands after about 10 minutes.

Also since you're a fan of CGR I have an episode of my podcast with Mark. That was a real kick talking to that dude. I can link you if you're interested.

Yeah, I imagine a good controller can go a long way. I did an endurance test with Asteroids on the 2600 using a third party stick. The stick was stiff as hell and the un-ergonomic shape hurt like a bitch.
How strict are TG when it comes to submission requirements?

>> No.365178

They can be pretty lenient sometimes by letting people submit without any evidence or proof, that's why people tend to frown upon them.

You have to use actual hardware, no emulation, record yourself starting the machine and the entire play through and you state your name in the intro of the video. I think you still need to mail in DVD/VHS. When I submitted my score there wasn't a way to just upload video and they weren't taking youtube videos or anything that would make shit super easy. That may have changed by now. It was like 2 and a half years ago when I submitted my DVD.

I suggest finding an obscure game with no scores submitted if you just want to have an "official" high score. I chose Ninja Golf for a reason. Before my submission it had been years since anyone else submitted a score. I had picked the game up on a whim while waiting for my girlfriend to put on make up and noticed my score was pretty close to the TG high score after like 20 minutes of playing. Also who doesn't want to make the serious claim of being the Ninja Golf world champ?

>> No.366208

I "hold" several records on TG and didn't even have to do anything. Long ago someone was keeping a high score list for 2600 games. At some point TG took it and added it to their database; and started emailing everyone on that list repeatedly about something or another I don't remember. So I have several records, all unverified since that original list was run on the honor system, (as this was long before days of Youtube or cheap consumer digital video.)

Once in a while I'll come across my name and score on some classic gaming board that decided to hold a friendly competition among members. And somehow my not-always-great score is treated as some kind of accomplishment to beat.
