I also wasn't aware that Dragon Ball had the party fight a giant space monster who was eating the entire planet, saving a princess from ceasing to exist, meeting a knight who needed to defeat an evil mage, time travel as the main aspect (it's barely used in Dragon Ball except by Trunks mostly off-screen), a whole world of dinosaurs fighting for their lives against humans, a stealth infiltration into a giant ship, fighting a corrupt government/kingdom, the characters going off on a bunch of sidequests like saving the soul of their friend or planting a forest over a course of 400 years, a robotic main character companion, a portal system, an area that existed beyond time for them to get mentored and train with a god of war...

I could go on for hours about how different the story is from Dragon Ball's. Either you're shitposting or you're really just this retarded.

Yes it is in the case of Trigger. Lets see. Character design - either Toriyama is a hack that can only draw Goku/Bulma/Vegeta clones or there is something deeper to this. The villain joining the heroes was a Dragon Ball trope? Gee, I never realized that either. Also Chrono Trigger had Magus as an anti-hero planned from the beginning as opposed to the likes of Vegeta who were pure evil scumfucks from the beginning that got written into being allies because of their popularity. Great atmosphere, shit storytelling, non existent gameplay.

Some of the best musics and graphics I've seen on a PS1 RPG.
Storytelling consist in not telling anything to the player during 30 hours, then have guy sum up the story in a half an hour monologue. Holy shit.

Gameplay is non existent. You know the joke "press attack to win"? It's literaly the case in this game. There is no reason whatsoever to do anything other than "attack3" all the time, you don't even need to HEAL or anything. There seem to be a cool colour based system behind it all, but I've honestly never seen any of it because by the time you'd want to use it, you'd have killed the enemies 3 times already with "attack 3". Only a couple of boss bottles require you to do something else.

Besides, excep from a couple of minor stat boost after each boss, there is no reason to fight random battles whatsoever.

This game is a gigantic waste.

I agree that random battles should be more than "press attack to win", but the other extreme of that would be something like MS Saga, where you need to have an strategy for EVERY SINGLE RANDOM ENEMY FORMATION. It gets very tiresome when a game that would be sub-20 hours tops, takes 50 hours to complete because battles are a chore. They're very difficult and give you almost nothing in return.

I was exagerating, it's not "attack 3" all the time, but IIRC there is a pattern so that the miss rate gets lower. My point is, that pattern is still based on "attack 1/2/3" where attack 3 is the most important component.

The issue is that CC took the issue to its extreme. The basic idea is to have a no grinding game, but as a result, they made everything WAY too easy to make sure it doesn't get unfair or the player doesn't get stuck (since he'd have no way to go around it since there is no grinding possible). It's easy to the point that it makes the entire gameplay system pointless.

It had a lot of funny moments, including that whole route where Magil and Lynx turn out to be aliens and Lynx had to eat his ship, or that one moment where you read Silence of the Lambs dialogue which creeps Kid out. The music is beautiful and the atmosphere gives a haunting feeling when you play it in the dark. I also enjoyed having a protagonist with a personality and the callbacks to Chrono Trigger (IE Magil stating the owner of the Masamune wasn't his enemy, but he wasn't sure if they could be considered friends) were great. The graphic style is also unique for visual novels and it was really short making replays easy to do unlike most other VNs.T
