Second, try to imagine a Caco eating corn and getting a bit stuck in their teeth, the same way people do. That Cacodemon will be in a serious dilemma, it has no hands or tongue with which to try and pick the piece of corn outta their teeth. And you do indeed have to take a snapshot of the map in GZDB or export the lineart map (no textures) from slade 3 and then find the offset from the center point of the image to the player starting point as well as the pixel-to-map-unit ratio for any given map/image combination. D4D has better combat due to a focus on all projectiles

PB has better enemies due to scaling tiers of enemies with more options on making enemies hard.

In D4D you will eventually end up Russian Overkill powerful, even with MP weapons turned off and set to Nightmare or Ultra Nightmare

PB keeps you above most enemies in power but you can't outclass them so hard that they just melt in front of you.

I pick D4D as the better mod though due to less useless weapons compared to PB

D4D needs something to mix in with Hell Razors because they are effectively useless and easier to deal with than zombiemen

All enemies attack linearly and it's all dodgeable

Use your Siphon grenades more so you always have armor, since Nightmare and Ultra Nightmare both start you with it AND it causes enemies to flinch often.

I meant RO-tier powerful more in how effectively you can kill everything rather than being completely invincible on lower settings.

D4D weapons are ridiculously powerful and it's kind of nice but it gets stale once you have say.. The Orbiter upgrade.
I'm tearing through slaughtermaps because of how powerful things are, and the SSG with piercing shots alone fucks up everything easily enough.

I have just discovered flat sprites and so far I can't quite make them work. They flicker and look like horseshit. Any idea what I could possibly be doing wrong ? If I adjust the pitch, they display fine (but of course, the idea would be to have the sprite flat on the ground, not fucking flying at an angle)

Also, to expand on samsara's marathon's weapons being as accurate as the engine deems it, i mean that the shots weren't hitscan, they were fake hitscans, and explosions used a flag called fullradiusdamage (or something) which makes explosives do the same damage on the blast radius (current zan 2.1.2 version just made the thing explode hard, zan 3.0 gave it FRD), the Fusion pistol made MASSIVE BITCHING DAMAGE to mechanical targets and went through invuln/armor which shreds the heresiarch and nearly all of the bestiary on Strife. I don't see much reason to make an accurate to the game weapons mod, again, i'd prefer if it was more like making Marathon's movement mechanics a thing on doom.

First thing I did was restore the original weapon damage values.

I forgot how much of a beast the WSTEs were. This is definitely a Super Shotgun tier weapon.

Juggling the weapon tiers is going to be strange, since I won't have to worry about balance or compatibility like Samsara does.
So I'm not sure what would be good for things.

Was playing ancient aliens with d4d i believe it was episode 2 map 3 and I activated all the monsters, there were probably about 20 monsters shooting their projectiles I ran up to a group of imps standing on a ledge (about 6-7) shot them with a rocket launcher and I got a frame dip as they all were gibbed, I looked away quickly and frame rate came back

D4D does add loads of additional effects. Not as much as BD does, but still. It laso adds some voxel models, and GZDoom is not good at rendering several of those at the saem time.

The gibbing effect it adds is your culprit - theres a lot of fancy blood flying around, and spawning that much at the same time can cause issues.

Did a simple test, and indeed gory explosions are a culprit of massive slowdown.

I played plutonia go2it with complex doom on zandronum and I got all the mancubus' to shoot at me and I dropped to 30 fps with a large amount of particles covering the screene.

You should get an i7 to go with a card of that caliber. No point in having a bottleneck - CPU and GPU should be of the same "performance zone" so neither of them chokes on stuff while other works at 50% of its capacity.

I got me i7 3770 with GeForce 660 Ti (performance/price ratio seemed perfect at the time) in 2013 and I can still play fresh games at near max with a bit of tweaking at 1600x900 (mostly some shadows and post processing like DoF and glare). Only recently games began using uncompressed high res textures that require 4GB VRAM, and then I have to tone down from ultra to High, and that's only then.

i'm going to be extremely, extremely generous and assume that you are actually this naive and that you legitimately don't know, a notion i'm sure you will blow for me in the inevitable reply to this.

the reason these can be toggled in smooth doom is because they are integrated into single actors.
the altskins, d64 skins, and normal skins are all one single weapon, with the settings only toggling a number that this one single actor reads and then changes itself.
it is not an actor that magically replaces another actor that is called via the setting.

only one actor replacement can exist at a time. if you have a monster with custom gibs replace the baron of hell, but you prefer the fireball that comes with another baron of hell in another mod, you can't toggle a switch and have another replacement take its place. that monster replacement is already there and replaced.
the only way it would work is to have one single actor change itself, which is something that someone else would need to do for explicit compatibility with both mods.

and this isn't even getting into how menudef is not a stackable entry. menudefs cannot be stacked together into one lump sum of settings. they will overwrite each other.

having multiple mods change how they work based upon another mod's settings is impossible.

It takes time to upgrade your weapons to make it become easy. That poster is probably talking about Map 20 or 30 of a megawad. In the beginning, Going Down is horrible.

The library map (Map 8 or 9?) slaughtered me, as a switch would usher in multiples of cacodemons, hell knights, and revenants, all of which had boosted rate of fire and firepower.

At that level, you still need to fire 2 rockets in a caco's face to kill it.

Both Gibs and Animation (adding new frames/states) requre to change same monsters Decorate code.
You can not change part of same actors decoreate code in one mod, then other part in the other unless they are in completely different states (and those overlap often), and even that would require spaghettying and extensive use of inheritance, which breaks more things than it fixes.

This is why 2 mods can not affect same thing - actor gets overwritten by whatever writes to it last.

A single mod can have many features on one actor. Several mods with different eatures for same actor can not be combined by simple loading.

If you want to get 2 effects on the same actor from different mods, you'll have to manually cobble the code together in a single actor in a nonconflicting way, which is not a trivial thing to do and bound to introduce new bugs.

Nobody was talking about a baron shooting a fireball from one mod and then getting gibbed with another mod. What I was talking about is having, say, mod A change gibs, and fireballs, then mod B change textures and music, and then mod C change lighting of everything - with the ability to toggle the settings so that mod A now changes textures and music and mod B changes gibs and fireballs.

As opposed to having mod A change every fucking thing so it's either A OR B OR C OR fuck all.

It's as simple as that. And yes, there's absolutely no reason not to structurize different modifications within a given mod so that you can simply omit loading some of it's features. Like with Beautiful Doom, where you can simply not load the weapons wad and that's that.

New update made Shotgun nearly obsolete by bumping pistol damage to match.

I take it that it's probably more of a problem with vanilla Doom itself, but what I'm thinking along the lines is that Chainguys make absolutely no sound when you're this far away and they can still damage you. There's no impact sounds when walls are hit either, but that's a given.

Next time I'll use an actual heightmap to generate the vertex slopes instead of pulling them manually, and then use normal textures at a scale/density where the player doesn't feel small.

The hud will probably stay huge for both stylistic and practical reasons. And yes, it's mean to be a mainly multiplayer game. When played 1vs1, each player will have a small squad of NPC mechs to command.

testing out QZdoom's Bloom and Ambient Occlusion features. I'm not feeling it to be honest. I feel as thought all it does is make the edges of the room slightly darker than the rest, and it contrasts very poorly with the overall rough/unnatural look of the various sectors with different brightness in the levels. It also slows the game down considerably(getting around 30-40 FPS in this map)
