By that logic, we can discuss Overwatch here since PC is a platform released on or before 1999.

The rules don't specify the release dates of games, only the platforms they run on. Final Fantasy 9 was released in 2000.

The rules are as stupid and broken as the backseat mods who try to 'enforce' them on other posters. These are the same people who will throw a shitfit if you made a thread about an early PS2 game like Timesplitters but will pass no heed on threads about games like Daikatana, Diablo 2 and Deus Ex even though they were all made in the same year. Somehow PC games are allowed more leniency than console games, even if some of the PC games in question were made BEFORE the fucking console games.

They're just a bunch of hypocrites who abuse the rules when it fits their spergy agenda and conveniently ignore them when it doesn't. At this stage, we should really be making a concerted effort to oust these morons from /vr/. They are the cancer that's eating away at this board, and it's pretty easy to see that because they're constantly trying to deflect blame onto the /v/ strawman that they've built. Everyone who disagrees with them is a 15 year old shitposter from /v/ if they are to be believed. Deflect, deflect, deflect.

The time for chemo is coming ever closer, autists. This board was a beautiful place before you showed up and started ruining the place, and no amount of blame shifting or revisionist history is going to change that fact. Tick tock, faggots.

>> No.3599050 [DELETED]

Another thread derailed into a "LETS CHANGE /vr/ NOW"

You children are so amusing, so full of energy yet so stupid and stubborn.

Best of luck though, not that it will change anything.

>> No.3599051 [DELETED]

>>3599034
Are you trying to force a copy pasta meme? This board is a bit slow for that.

>> No.3599065 [DELETED]

>>3599050
Nothing about this thread involves change. The rules are very clear: games on platforms launched in 1999 and earlier. The Genesis is one such platform. Pier Solar is a game on that platform. That's the word of god.

>> No.3599070

Has anyone here actually played through a decent portion of Pier Solar?

I want to get into this game because the graphics are gorgeous and I'd like more RPG's for my Genesis, but I'm worried that the story will devolve into fandom-tier garbage. I've played through early parts of the game and while the dialogue isn't too cringy, the cutscene drawings look like they're pulled straight from deviantart.

>> No.3599082 [DELETED]

>>3599065
>word of god
God abandoned you and works at google, faggot.

Admit it: this place would be a lot better if the rules got revised to get rid of the ridiculous hardware loophole that lets you discuss 2016 software on a vintage gaming board.

>> No.3599116 [DELETED]

>>3599082
I guess it depends on which you value more: vintage software, or vintage hardware. Many people wax poetic about creativity spurred by limitation. I'm sure the dev team worked very hard to get the game running appropriately. By virtue of the limitations of the hardware, it's authentic by default. Do you really want the board to be a time capsule? And btw, I'm anti-GBA and on the fence about the 5th gen myself. But I don't see any problem with stuff like this.

>> No.3599128

>>3599070
Getting back on topic, the game honestly isn't that great. It looks lush but the story and game play mechanics are bland and generic as fuck.

That might apease some people but for me there's honestly not much to recommend when there are far superior rpgs on the system.

The sticky doesn't actually contain any rules distinguishing Windows/Linux/OSX software from other platforms. I've been saying for some time now we should probably get that written in there if we like that rule.

>> No.3599351 [DELETED]

>>3599023
Don't go that route, I was playing Warcraft III with a TNT RIVA 2, you don't want DotA to become retro do you?

That aside, I wish PC didn't have such a strict cut off at 1999 since consoles routinely have games posted made after 1999, but there's no real good way to clarify what games are valid and what aren't besides that. At least Diablo 2 and Deus Ex can be posted here without deletion despite technically being against the rules.

>> No.3599358 [DELETED]

>>3599139
Not really. The people that think 2016 games are classic games and belong here are the ones in the wrong.

I keep telling myself I will play it one day. I waited for it to be released on the 360, but one day I'll play it on PS3. I wish I knew of the game sooner, because I'd have loved to get the CD included with the game (plus I think the JP MD box was cooler), so I got stuck with the reprint.

The MD does have a deficiency in RPGs, so I am glad to have another.

Utter shit, done by fanboys trying to replicate crappy 16 bit RPG, but worse than said RPGs. Why the fuck I would want to play a copy of old RPGs if I already played those old RPGs?

If your game need auto pathfinding, your map design is really bad.

I didn't enjoy it very much. Battle is very very tedious - to use strong skills, you have to waste a turn "charging up", and that multiple times. Characters can pass charges, but that takes a turn too. Ground guys can't hit fliers, which is also a fucking pain in the ass.

The graphics are pretty boring. There's a "HD" mode that changes the backgrounds only. Level design is the same old junk.

As far as the story goes, it didn't exactly have me gripped. In fact the only thing I distinctly remember is trying to cut a tree with a badger. I quit after the desert, which is a few hours into the game. Had some screenshots but IDK where I put them.

Hahaha, that's an understatement, friend. While I envy your collection (rare gamepads, mostly), you're obviously a hoarder.

Nevertheless, I too suffer from that affliction. I would argue that I have a better handle on it, if only to compensate for my far more modest collection.

If you guys ever see a thread with this on the OP, don't respond. If you accept posts wherein the poster intentionally acts stupid these posts will only become more common and the overall quality of the board will get worse.
