I'll assume you didn't read anything before hand, don't notice that "find the exit" is an objective onto itself, and you just saw "OBJECTIVES" and had to post. The point is to create different kinds of playthroughs based on what the player accomplishes in each level. Don't want to fight the archvile in level 1? Ok, but don't expect the processing plant in level 2 to be open, and if the processing plant isn't opened, then you can't shut down the toxic sludge run-off, which leads to level 3 having a good deal extra damaging floors. There are multiple of these in each level that affect the next level, etc. Some people, like you, just want to run to the finish line as quickly as possible; that's fine, but things will be hard, you'll get kicked in the dick on a few occasions, and you'll probably get the bad ending.
