Wow, I thought I was the only one who loved the game for this reason. Still a favorite to this day because of the graphics.

Are PCE games worth checking if I played NES versions?

New Adventure Island on PCE is good though not better than 2, 3 and 4, it's more like a touched up Adventure Island 1/Wonder Boy with better graphics.

Come to think of it, New Adventure Island was the only game in the series for PCE. Hudson could have made more and better ones, but yeah it's still worth playing.

It's weird, but by coincidence, that's the 3rd game in this thread I've already played. Looks like my main criteria for games was bright screenshots all along.

I noticed that too. It's surprising, I'd guess Hudson would make Takahashi Meijin the mascot of the platform, with numerous gaidens, RPG spin-offs and stuff like that. But AFAIK they mostly made them for FC, which was still a competitor to PCE back in the day

I've been looking to get into Rainbow Islands series for a long time now. But this one plays similar to Bubble Bobble, i.e. it has single-screen arcade action. Not my cup of tea exactly.

Are there any installments which play more like console platformers, i.e. Kirby and so on?

One of my favorites. Played a lot of it along with Fantasy Zone and Parodius. Cute 'em ups are the best.

You might just want to look into Treasure's catalog altogether

When I was a kid, I had a book with short reviews/walkthroughs for games. It had a large portion about Dynamite Headdy, and I still couldn't make shit out of that game.

Otherwise, thanks for the rec. I've played Gunstar Heroes, it was alright but I actually liked the GBA one a little better. Also played Alien Soldier, kinda liked it more as it had greater control over character.

What about the rest of their catalogue? Are their Yu Yu Hakusho and McDonalds games worth checking?

I never actually played those but what I usually read about them is thath they're usually regarded as their weaker titles, although not bad games

McDonalds Treasure Land Adventure is a walk in the park but it's totally worth the ride. It's not a challenging game by any means, but at the same time you will never see that much effort in producing a propaganda game like this in your life.

Plus, it's one of the most colorful 16-bit games of that time.
