This thread is for racing games played from an overhead perspective. Single-screen, scrolling, and isometric games are all welcome.

Badlands is a fun combat racing game from Atari. It was released as a conversion kit for the more well-known Super Sprint, and it shares some of the sound effects, as well as the upgrade wrenches. The tracks are much more detailed, there are new track layouts, and you can arm yourself with guns, missiles and shields. You even get free upgrade wrenches for first place and beating the lap record.

I play this a lot on an emulator on my phone. The music is pretty cool and there are some nice graphical details. Your final ranking depends on the time it takes you to complete a lap since the game doesn't track your position relative to the other racers, who are little more than random obstacles like the drivers in Outrun. In fact the Dakar Paris - The Cape mode is basically top-down Outrun minus the alternate routes.

There was that one arcade game where you had a wheel but stood standing, and it also had a SNES port. Offroad racing with trucks with big wheels, simple but very fun.

Death Rally (1996) is super rad.

Andy Sullivan's Indy Heat on NES or arcade is pretty fun.

Neo Drift Out! might be the pinnacle of the whole genre.

If you like Neo Drift Out, try Backfire from Data East. The control is a little weird, you move the 8-way stick in the direction you want to go rather than just moving it left or right, but it looks fantastic and has some great course designs.

The picture is like that because each cabinet had two monitors. You can set it for only one screen to display in MAME.

Snake takes a first place knockout! Rip finishes 2nd! Viper takes a weak third...

This stuff, pretty cool for an obvious interactive snickers advert.
Cool settings and course layouts, many different characters all of which differs in speed, agility and weapons making them shine on various part of the courses.
Really cool weapons like shot that changes your enemy into running turkey or extendable arms that grab walls allowing you to turn tighter.
Visuals, animation and audio are not bad either.
