Can you guys share some of your favorite Dungeon Crawlers with me?

>> No.3554897

>>3554883
Might and Magic 6 (still counts) and Wizardry 8. Sorry your thread died.

>> No.3554914

>>3554897
That's okay.
If /v/ doesn't show any interest I usually compensate by making a thread on /vr/ if the topic fits the criteria.

What about MM5:World of Xeen?
Only heard good things about it and the spriteart looks pretty impressive.

>> No.3554930

>>3554914
I spoke too soon, your thread is still alive. Xeen is fun with lots of things to explore but the combat is pretty easy. Worth checking out at least for the setting and keep in mind cloudside and darkside were originally two separate games.

My nigga. This game is really comfy to play. The GBA sequel (Monster Gate) is pretty good too.

>> No.3555167

Stonekeep is still the most atmospheric, varied dungeon crawler I've ever played. It had a nice mix of RPG elements, awesome music and a dense backstory. Legend of Grimrock 1 and 2 came pretty close to replicating that experience, minus the story.
Shining in the Darkness is a grind-fest but fun.

>>3555167
I lost momentum and never finished it, possibly because of bugs, but I still remember looking at the fucking WAHOOKA song and thinking, holy shit, the programmers must be all on shrooms.

The console version has better controls.

>>3555071
Yes, it's got better sound effects and music.

If you enjoy controlling a cursor with a dpad maybe.

>> No.3555325

>>3555303
You can lock the cursor and move around and side step quickly with the d-pad. When you execute actions, the cursor automatically hovers over the next weapon/item held by each of each character until you've gone through all the weapons/items held by every character.

I really like how Dark Heart of Uukrul focuses on just solid gameplay in battle system/resource management/puzzle/dungeon exploration instead of numbers/build management.

Wizardry 1. It's the dark souls of dungeon crawlers. once you beat it all the other dungeon games seem way too easy.

>> No.3555630

I've been enjoying the dungeon crawls in Daggerfall. Some of the most complex and bewildering dungeons I've ever seen in a game... fun to get lost in.

I have a soft spot for Dungeon Master 2: Legend of Skullkeep.
It was made kinda late and it blew Eye of the Beholder and Dungeon Master 1 (=what I'd known then) out of the water in my young mind. Holy fuck I have shops (where I can haggle!) I can create items. I can light a fucking fireplace with a torch (pic related hearing the fire crackle is the comfiest shit). It was also the very first game I ran with a soundcard, hearing the music + ambient wind/rain/machinery noises made it hard to find my jaw.

That's my fave grid crawler. If non-grids are allowed, definitely both Ultima Underworlds (hard to say which one I like better). And Menzoberranzan for sentimental reasons.

I can't manage to get Wizardry Gaiden IV to work on any retroarch cores. Tried softpatching, different roms, prepatched rom, etc. but no luck.

Haven't had problems with almost any other SNES/SuperFamicom patches.

>> No.3556416

>>3556406
Gaiden IV is not Wizardry IV, it's just the fourth side story.
Does it work without patch?

>> No.3556418

yes, works fine without the patch....

I have to thank /vr/ yet again for recommending me this game. The dungeon design in particular is fantastic. I'm a little less of a fan how the combat tries to split the difference between wizardry and gold box stuff, since its still kind of awkward, but the farther you go in the game the less of a focus is placed on battles.
