Mario Kart 64. Got it for cheap a few years ago and finally decided to try it out. The game is as good as I remember it, pulling the slides and the mini turbos feels great, and learning each circuit takes some time. I've only just be able to beat Luigi's ghost from Luigi Raceway, whcih is the easiest circuit in the game. Mastering each course' best time might take a while, I don't think I'll be able to do it but I'm just having fuck fucking around with it and beating my own ghosts. What's bullshit though is that the game requires 121 blank pages on the memory card to save ghosts, and the N64 memory card has 123 blocks. That's some serious bullshit. but whatever, I can live without ghosts, the best times are saved anyway.
The main reason I came back to Mario Kart 64 was because I wanted to play some multiplayer, battle mode is still the best VS mode in any Mario Kart. But I got hooked on the single player and time trials. I already got all the gold cups on all difficulties including Extra.

So glad I picked this up when I did. Started a new game because I got hyped for 1/2 genie hero and I'm still not disappointed

As long as it's for the 64 I guess?
Got it for WiiU from the VS and it's almost unplayable due to the sensitivity in the stick.

Im experiencing the same thing with Star Fox 64. Im just trying to get a perfect galaxy and do it all again on expert. Im having a shit load of fun.

>>3551684
That could be a VC issue. Im playing it on retroarch with a ps3 controller and it feels smoother than ever.

And holy shit I did the perfect ending yesterday and got serious goosebumps from the James McCloud scene. My dad used to play this game a ton and loved this scene so that could have something to do with it.

Definitely Mario Kart
Played it a lot as a kid, rediscovered it lately - it's still the best racing game out there imo
the Special Cup is my favorite

Have you beaten the secret ghosts in the time trial?
>>3550456 here, I've been playing a lot of it lately and looking up discovered that not only Luigi's Raceway has a ghost, but Mario Raceway and Royal Raceway do as well (with Mario and Peach's ghosts respectively).
I thought it'd take me forever but I beat them both quickly. To be honest I wasn't even aware of the mini-turbo mechanic when I was a kid, me and my friends just played very casually.

I was playing this the other day. Even more fun now that I'm more competent. It gets pretty hard.

It really is, I'm ashamed I didn't play it for the first time until 5 years ago.

It was incredible. I wish i could play it again for the first time.

No game comes close. Some metroidvania's scratch the itch but its not the same

Still get drunk and brawl with friends over this game. Holding a lightning at Wario Stadium till the leaders get to the jump incites real life violence.

Mega Man Legends 1 and 2

Also Star Ocean the Second Story is still an unsung classic to this day.

Yeah i know the remake but didnt have the same feel with horrid voice overs.

Figuring out how to turn off Celine's Ray when level grinding was a crowning achievement of my childhood to this day.

When I was younger I'd rented Earthbound and struggled with it. I don't remember much, but I'm guessing poor resource management or being underleveled.

This week I put a few long nights into it and finally beat it. Holy shit, what a trip. I had no idea about the gimmick in the last phase of Giygas, either, so after fighting for what seemed like ages, burning through all of my supplies, and losing Jeff and Poo, I wasn't sure what to do. Thought I was underleveled or something so I just said, "Fuck it, time for prayer!" and hit Pray.

I felt a bit daft on that one.

I think you are supposed to exhaust all your resources and then try something that seems stupid but actually is the only thing that works.

Most people use walkthroughs, so don't feel daft.

I love F Zero X. My favourite racing game bar none. It's so fast and smooth, with great controls. I find it so hypnotic watching the track silkily unfurl, like liquid, before my eyes.
